Trade Week: Tim Boyle

I know everyone is excited about finals and playing Geelong, as well as the win over essendon, but let's take a side step for a minute.

We seriously need to take a look at Boyle in trade week.

Hawks are a huge pain to trade with, but I believe that we can come to some kind of fair agreement.

Kicked 8 goals for Box Hill on the weekend, and would slot in very nicely at FF for us.

Also, Beau Dowler was a high draft pick that doesn't look like breaking into their side just yet, but was picked as a long term prospect due to a car accident in his draft year.

Not sure what we should give up, or what the hawks would want.

Not sure about Boyle but we do need that 3rd marking tall.

I would imagine that the Dogs for example would "bid" a higher price than us if he was available.

Their team is still crying out for more talls.

Way too early yet to know what our draft strategy will be. However we cannot finish lower that 6th now.


However I would imagine that Lyon would want to keep our first round draft pick, and that he will want to keep the majority of our picks, but may be will to trade say the second rounder.


However what other clubs bid for Kerr would be a factor that could extract our first rounder (but again I think other clubs will outbid us).



Lyon however has demonstrated that he is very driven by list management and focusing on chinks in our team, but EQUALLY he is keen on extracting good value trades.

So yes Boyle could be looked at. So we have Allen in the wings as a similar type player.

I was hoping to snap him up for a late third rounder or fourth rounder.

Now someone will offer a top 25 pick - I'm not sure we should match that.

It's a matter of if the coaching staff thinks that Boyle is a better option than Allen. John Barker might know.

Whatever the case, it seems pretty set that he won't be at Hawthorn next year.

Pick your best two out of Allen, Charlie and Boyle, and that's your answer.

I'd place Boyle well ahead of Allen and Charlie; I'm sure more astute judges could deliver a veridct. I'm guessing on potential, Allen easily. On what he has proven, Charlie is well in front.

Either way, we've got to give Roo support. Charlie takes a lot of heat off, which is great, but going forward you'd back Boyle to have a much greater impact.

Maybe the retirement of Gehrig frees up an extra spot?

I don't think salray cap is really the limtation.

But rather it is the cost of aquistion in terms of picks and/or players traded.

Boyle of cheap would be worth it. But I do not think he will go as cheap as we would like.

Not suggesting that - more along the lines of Gehrig (who takes up a spot on the list as a forward) needs to be 'replaced'. I think we all agree we need a genuine second forward to take the heat off Roo.

But surely Carlton would offer up their third round pick. They'd see him for the same purpose as us - to take the heat off the #1 forward.

I think King had some bonus points due to his record. Not sure Boyle has ever really done much in his career.

With the upcoming concessions for the Gold Coast, and this years draft said to be strong, we should not give away draft picks as we wont have much in the nexy few years

I'd take Boyle as long as the price was right.

If I could get a trade of Gwilt for Boyle off the table, then that's what I'd be looking for. They need backmen, we could use a key forward, they have no use for Boyle, we're using Gwilt in a medium forwards role.

By the end of finals I might change my mind, or Gwilt might play himself out of a job. The Hawks might well laugh at me, but if I'm a trader, I'm willing to get laughed at regularly to try and find my steal.

I wouldn't be surprised (Carlton I'm looking at you) offered more, so I make the offer with no expectation of getting the return, but if it's anything other than a spare parts for spare parts deal, I'm saying no.

I don't know enough about Dowler to make a judgement there, but I really like Boyle (and I think he's exactly the type to be targetted for trade. Young, good, fits a need, but can't get a crack with the guys ahead of him at Hawthorn).

Can't break into a forward line with Franklin and Roughead in it, that's no disservice.

If he was good enough they would find a way to play him. He is an average player and we need them like a hole in the head. Trade for stars or keep the picks.
