Post: # 629820Post Solar »

I'd happily have him for no more than a 3rd round pick.
Lot of water to go under the bridge just yet though.

Draft is a long way off yet....so don't get too excited.

And all clubs would have hada pick or two before we would deema pick cheap enough...

Pick 10? No way...

Pick 26..would seem expensive..

Pick 42...would he be there still?

with our core group of young players he would be perfect foil...

even playing off a hff he would be more than serviceable

he has enough of an ego to know if he can come back and if his ego says yes, i want to be the man again...done

good enough for me

welcome to the st kfc big benny c...look like ill have to update my avatar

Don't like this at all.

Great player and all that, but seriously are we considering a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a 30 year old?

I'm not totally closed to the idea, but I'd rather chase Daniel Kerr than Ben Cousins.

Not really all that happy about this, the guy is a clear knob...

I swear to god if they gave him the number 35 I would burn the club down...

Indeed as Kerr is 4 years younger.

But Kerr will bea lot more expensive as well.

though at least with Kerr as he is trade, you will either know if you have him or ot.

With Cousins you will just have to wait and see if he isstill available.

By meeting with him first I would imagine that the saints are trying to have him think "favourably" towards as....as well as the Saints just getting a better handle on where he is at.

Danier Kerr will cost you:
Pick #10, Pick #28, Nick Dal Santo and probably Pick #46.

Ben Cousins:
Pick#28 or Pick#46.

Also - Expect Cousins to be signed on a 1 year deal, with a low starting salary (probably higher bonuses).
Expect Kerr to be signed on a 3+ year deal, with a high starting salary and higher bonuses.

Not to mention, expect almost every club in the AFL to be after Kerr, very little competition for Cousins.

Have always said, and still do - would absolutely love Cousins at the club, regardless of where we finish. Might teach some of the players what 'trying your guts out' really means.

Might be...in your opinion.

However, he's something we don't have -
A ball magnet, a great kick, a tough player, a premiership player and a brownlow medallist - all in one.

If we were going to use a pick on an injury riddled ruckman who had not played in 3 years....would we go for someone who won the brownlow 3 years ago...whose body is in awesome condition...I wonder

...personally I couldn't give a rats about his drug habit...

I only know of three players who have played with the same level of fitness to Cuz......

Bradley, R.Harvey, Crawford - and they all played until 38, 37, 34.....so considering he has missed 2 years, and his body has had a rest....he may have 3-4 years in him......3-4 Ben Cousins years are better than most second Rnd Draft picks will turn out

Kerr gives you 7+ years. How many Cousins?

I think the better teams building for sustained success aren't going to be the ones looking at Cousins.

In other words, you won't see Hawthorn in the mix for him.

Short term fix. Take him in the preseason draft only. Only. Let an early pick go in this draft at your peril.

I would take him in a second if we were only ones interested, i would dare say Freo and essendon as they have lost some experience players, but they are also after youth

we have the right core group we just need one or 2 to top up

isn't he 24?

we have no chance of chasing kerr- a brownlow winner, proven champ (on the footy field), at a bargain basment price is a pretty good consolation prize imo.

I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.

I know how Dal feels.

Kerr doesn't have a brownlow.

Yes - you beauty.

We get a potential ready made replacement for R.Harvey (in skill and value to the team not in the same league as a person and Saints man but you know what I mean) and keep our top dps.

People are saying he is too old.

BALONEY.

He is 7 years younger than Harvey and could play at least two if not three years and will not cost the earth.

Would be a great pickup and as St.Mart says I couldn't care less about his drug habits in the past.

We need that experience in the midfield and he looks a million dollars.

We should go for him.

FOR SURE

Lance or James??

To take Cousins or not is a question that really depends on where you see St Kilda'slist and a flag.

IMO we arent at the Carlton/Richmond stage - they are coming.
Hawks/Cats probably past us...Cats definatley...
Dogs I reckon we can compete with.

Syd/Adelaide - sliders
Collingwood - best to come
Nth - top 8. NOT gonna win a flag with that list

So where are we at?

Hudgton, Hayes, King, Gardiner are the "olds" and apart from Max 3 are still sub 30?

The top middle 24-26 core is:

Roo, Kos, Clarkes, Dal, Monti, Gram, Fish, Gilbert, Sneids, Goddard, Ball

With good kids (not superstars IMO) of Armo, Eddy, Geary, Miles, McEvoy

Point is we arent at bottom out stage but arent at top flag chance stage either as we have some major holes (see defense post Max).

Does adding Cousins put us into "we are still flag material" land (that HAS to be top 2 for me) and if not why go for him.

Thoughts?

i'd take cousins if he's available cheaply.

not often you can pick a champion up for next to nothing. problem is if we show we're keen it will start a bidding war and bump the price up.

needs to be handled well and kept under wraps.

I think from what CH 9 announced that he can only be in the National Draft.
