AFL v. St Kilda?

Post: # 622298Post To the top »

At the business end of the season our draw is :-

6 days v. 8 days
8 days v. 8 days (in Perth)
7 days v. 8 days
7 days v. 9 days

So St Kilda play 4 games in 28 days whilst their opponents play 4 games in 33 days.

Plus St Kilda are in Perth for Rounds 17 and 20, playing day games on both visits (look at the day time temperature difference between Melbourne and Perth).

It is interesting to reflect that, of the 4 teams playing on the last Sunday of the Minor Round in 2008, only 1 (St Kilda) is in contention for finals action and, coincidentally, in finishing 9th in 2007, St Kilda was the highest finishing club of those playing on the last Sunday of the Minor Round in 2008 (the others being Melbourne, Richmond and Essendon).

So, if it progresses to the first round of finals football in 2008, St Kilda will be playing a side which has had at least 1 if not 2 days of extra recovery/preparation time.

And that could continue on through the finals series.

It should also be noted that Collingwood (the beneficiaries of a 6 day v. 8 day spread against St Kilda) play on the final Friday night of the 2008 season (v. Fremantle in a night game albeit in Perth).

On a separate matter altogether (and I go to pains to stress that as absolute), the references to betting and betting clubs in regards the thoroughbred industry in Victoria are interesting.

Could there be such an enquiry into AFL football and betting?

The real problem with these clubs is if, at the "settlement" meeting/s, someone reneges on payment/s because then there are reverbarations caused by someone not receiving monies due to them (on winning positions) but still having to pay out (on losing positions).

A net "book" gain can turn to a very, very heavy loss.

And, of course, these things (someone unable to cover their losses and reneging) happen periodically.

Plus, there is no legal recourse.

Only enduring recriminations.

A game at the end of the year is worth the same 4 points that the ones at the start of the year are worth.

Yeah, but overall the fixture this year has been good for us, and if we'd won the games we should have coasted in, we'd be laughing by now. It's only gonna be difficult now because the team made it that way through their own passionless performances.

Correct. Why even bring the fixture thing up. Just another reason for an excuse. If you going to use the last 4 rounds well you should look at preceeding 18 to see if it is fair.

AFL vs StKilda why the question mark it is a well known fact that Dimwit and his pet monkey Anderscum hate St Kilda particularly after GT had a crack at them and their umpires!

Well, Plugger66, you raise it (as distinct from "bringing it up" which is what you do with vomit) because, going into the business end of the season, when you are looking at every little advantage and then some, it is fact.

And the facts are that, at the business end of the season, and into the finals if they get there, there are no advanatges for St Kilda in the draw, and to the contrary.

One question. Do you think the Cats would care if they had that draw to finish the season?

Yep,

Forget that the last 6 rounds of the season 'fixtured' us against:

#15
#14
#7
#13
#6
#12

Gee,
I'm sure other teams are laughing at how 'difficult' our fixture

Your kidding...

In the last 6 weeks (the business end as you like to call it) we play against 4 of the bottom 5 sides....

Just because we play Freo at home...they've won 5 games for the whole year...we should be able to beat them if we played them in Zimbabwe.

What you are saying in FACT is that Geelong do not have that draw.

So you only serve to highlight the FACT which has been raised.

IF is a little word with major ramifications.

No you are right they play better sides than us over the last few weeks. Thanks for not answering the question though.

Of all the piss weak excuses as to why we are mediocre this takes the biscuit!

I didn't hear anyone complain when we (8 day break) played Hawthorn (6 day). Nor when we played our first 7 games at the dome.

Truthfully this thread should have been called St Kilda v St Kilda....that's what's beaten us more often than not this season!

"IF Geelong had the same" is a preposition not a question.

There is no question in your preposition because there is nothing to answer.

IF I had bought Rio Tinto shares yesterday I would be richer today than yesterday?

Obviously, but I did not so where is your question?

In terms of teams played, that is not the position put forward.

WE are talking about the recovery/preparation time afforded by the draw and the consistency of any deficit(s) at the time of the year when we enter "knock out" footy and recovery/preparation are absolutely vital down to the very last minute.

An extra day can make the difference between a player being available and unavailable - look at Everitt in 1997.

And Hawthorn "fell over" in the second half, did they not?

Plus our "form" from that second half has not been maintained. Indeed it was an aberration from performances throughout 2008.

So what does that tell us?

That we were favoured by a 8 day break v. a 6 day break?

Because, if that is your conclusion, we are back to the issue raised surely?

Probably St Kilda have not had enough exposure to finals footy to realise exactly what recovery/preparation goes into finals footy, where there is no tomorrow.

Simply, over the last month of the 2008 season, and into the finals, if they get there which is still most problematical because we have only really played one half of good footy in 2008 and that was when we were actually "advantaged" by the draw, there is no advantage to St Kilda FC and to the contrary there is disadvantage.

So you honestly believe the AFL have done this to us delibrately. I think we have far more important things to worry about than this finish to the season.

Just had a quick look at the year. So far we have had 5 more games with bigger breaks than the sides we have played. We have won one more game than we have lost in those games. When we have had a shorter break we have lost one more. So looking at it it means nothing.

My point is it all balances out in the end.

Let not make poor excuses, because that will not get us to the root cause.

Put the bottle down, take a paracetamol and lie down. It will all be OK in the morning.

It's just 36 blokes running after a dead pig....it's not real life.

You're caring too much Gilbert=Legend. Being a Saints fan will destroy you at this rate, I've seen your other posts tonight as well...

If you're good enough -you win, no matter where, and if you can do that, good chance you win a premiership. Poor old Harvs busts his gut for 21 years and the club can't deliver a flag..we need more players who bust their gut to win..too many passengers.

Not to mention our coach, who was sneakily put into our club by the AFL.
