Up coming draft

Post: # 619090Post go saintz »

By now it must be obvious that we lack a little bit and are not up to it.
As hard as it is for us all at the moment we don't deserve to make the finals and even if we fluke a final 8 position we would struggle to go any further than the first week if the last few weeks efforts are an indication.

I know I will probably cop a lot of crap for this but with the up coming drafts being so predjudiced for the new sides coming in, if we do happen to lose our last few games it may be better for our long term future to gain a higher draft pick as this draft seems to be very strong and blind Freddy cans see we need an injection of young talent.

Its scary to think...Carlton will probably just miss.....an get another better first crack at a potentially better youngster than us...

Won't make that much of a difference. Working off your theory, at worst we'll finish say 10th, at best 7th.

The way this year's draft is shaping up, there's not that much difference between pick 7 and 10. There's 4 or 5 obvious standouts, then it's a bit more of a crapshoot the next 20 or so places.

There's also a good chance that the team picking later may wind up with the better player. Steele Sidebottom and Stephen Hill will probably go after Hamish Hartlett and Jack Ziebell, but there's no guarantee that Sidebottom and Hill won't be the better players. It's equally hard to tell who's going to be the best of the talls after Watts, Naitanui and Hurley are gone. Vickery? McKernan? Johnstone? Then there's the guys who have been injured like Swift and Trengove, and there's probably some more obscure players who aren't well known at all.

I reckon we're better off trying to finish the season on a positive note and get ready for next year than trying to manipulate our draft position.

We just lost in the Preliminary Final tonight to Hawthorn by 54 points.

Wish I could travel back in time...tell you that sentence...and you would never believe me.

Still...I'm so disappointed. But how can you be when back then we were saying "fluke making finals" and "7th at best"
