Plugger, glad to see you've joined the rest of us and are using the 2 eyes in your head instead of the one you sit on to watch games now.

I'm not sure if it's deliberate cheating or not, (you're in a much better postition to determine that or not given your 'special relationship' with the AFL) but the level of incompetence from professional umpires was simply breathtaking today.

The astounding thing was teh 'incompetence' sseemed to be heavily weighted against one tema over the other.

As Sam Newman says, it's not the one's they pay that is important, it's the one's they don't pay. WE did not get one holding the ball even though one guy took 6 seconds to release the ball in the forward pocket, the Cornes one, the innumerable scragging one's we didn't get etc etc.
Head is not incompetent, he is a cheat, watching him closely today I can see no other way of describing him.
They were shocking and something is going on.
Fair dinkum, they nearly cost us the game.
I wil be forced to jump the fence soon.
St Kilda, time to complain to the AFL.
At least one of them is a cheat.
Full stop.

The 50m penalties. OK, Schneider grabbed the Port guy when he played on..but before the play-on call. I truly hate that rule...the side tacking gets penalised becasue the umps too slow to call PLAY ON!. BLind Freddie could see he was gonna dish it off. The oter 2?? soft as butter. 50m is a huge huge penalty..lets not pay them cos someone was 0.0001sec too late returnign the ball eh?
From my view and the replay it looked like schneider was running AWAY from the player with the ball and the only reason he was called for it was because the port played decided to kick the ball 90 degrees to the right, to the port player who schneider was running to pick up. Please tell me he didn't have his back to the player, maybe I need to watch the replay.....

Saint66au,
In case Plugger66 chooses not to enlighten us all with his opinion on your very direct question, I'll give you my 2 cents worth.

The umpiring today was incompetent.
They paid 'tiggy-touchwood' free kicks that were 'tecchnically coorect, when viewed through a microscope and then 'missed' blatant free kick after free kick.

They put themselves in ridiculous positions to view the action and adjudicate on any decisions.

There appeared to be total inconsistancy between the 3 umpires on how they judged decisions.

2 weeks ago Hawthorn were 'pinged' 3 or 4 times for deliberate out of bounds that were far less obvious than those judged today as o.k?

If Goddard and Blake can be 'pinged' for 'looking at their opponent wrongly' then why doesn't Roo get a free kick when he is 'mugged' in just about every marking contest he is involved in?

IMHO it's just not good enough to point at the stats and say the frees were relatively even. They don't have to be even (but 29-10 seems way to lopsided to be correct), the umpires need to pay free kicks consistantly for similar offences.

The second 50m given is a case in point. A similar event took place later in teh game and we were given a free kick when we tackled the Port player. Similar circumstances, totally different results. Why? It's getting to the point where the players have to see which umpire is officiating to determine what they (the player) does.

When did the 'Judd holding the ball interpretation' become standard? You know the one wher the tackled player is allowed to turn 360 degrees whilst being tackled and still not be 'free-kicked'.

TBH I can live with teh free kicks given against us (most I think were technically there) but my beef is the same as it is most weeks - it's the blatant free kicks we don't get that annoy me.

Just logged on to see how much anger there was against the umpiring. Couldn't agree more with everyone's comments. Today's umpiring was "worse" than a fcuking disgrace. It was blatant cheating, and they looked like they were having fun while doing it!

I can accept you're not going to get the rub of the green interstate, (seriously 29-10 last week was laughable in a sick sort of way), but when it's in your own backyard and these interstate scum get looked after like they do, it's a joke.

I've seen some shocking umpiring over the past 30 years (following the Saints), but today absolutely takes the cake. Surely there's got to be some repercussions as a result...........

Umpires are cheats.

No, they're not... they are just soooo farking clueless.

The ones that were obvious against us weren't paid. BJ got screwed with a so called hands-in-the back (I think it was him.

At least they were consistant with letting the holding the ball go. But gee, some were obvious.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Perhaps umpires read football forums and don't take too kindly being called "cheats" in other threads........

So many unpaid holding the ball decisions.

So frustrating.

We had to beat 2 teams out there today. Just glad we did.

Worst umpiring this century, besides last week.

They are so far up themselves, you can see their heads pop out their mouths.
