Goddard
Did some really good things today...great evasion and kicks to advantage....but....I really worry for him as a defender...gives away too many goals and frees in defensive 50....the sooner we can move him up to a permanent midfield HFF the better....would prefer Leigh Fifher back there for the defensive work if possible.
Nee!

agree. he's at his best creating rather than negating.fugazi wrote:Did some really good things today...great evasion and kicks to advantage....but....I really worry for him as a defender...gives away too many goals and frees in defensive 50....the sooner we can move him up to a permanent midfield HFF the better....would prefer Leigh Fifher back there for the defensive work if possible.

You would think Leigh has enough trouble in the 22222s without dumping this on him

Re: Goddard
I think he had an excellent last quarter. Not so sure about his effort in the first 3 though.fugazi wrote:Did some really good things today...great evasion and kicks to advantage....but....I really worry for him as a defender...gives away too many goals and frees in defensive 50....the sooner we can move him up to a permanent midfield HFF the better....would prefer Leigh Fifher back there for the defensive work if possible.

Goddard got the bad end of the umpires again.
it was blatant when he got the ball in the middle and was scragged for about 30 seconds before being released, then was dumped brutally after disposing of the ball.
umpires chose to miss those.
lovely kicking by goddard though, just cut through Ports midfield with his kicking.

he needs to control his anger and frustrtation becaue theres no way of convincing an umpire to change his mind about a decision and arguing will go against you... e.g. goddard took a mark and was held on to for about 20 secs yet no 50m penalty. and then as soon as he was released the umpire called play on...
hes got a lot of talent, speed and everything needed to become an elite player - shame to see him stay in the back line

agree, and it is counterproductive because the umpires start to look for any excuse to ping him.chook23 wrote:totally agreebigred wrote:He is as frustrated with the umps at the moment as we are.
Needs to suck it up and pull his head in.
carrying on like a child at the moment.......
Undisciplined and gives away far too many frees.....
His focus is too much on what the umps are doing.
we should get him off the backline for a while. he's better in a creating role than a negating one anyway
didn't he get 30 odd possessions playing on the wing? and his game before his knee last year at half forward was sublime.bigcarl wrote:agree, and it is counterproductive because the umpires start to look for any excuse to ping him.chook23 wrote:totally agreebigred wrote:He is as frustrated with the umps at the moment as we are.

As poor a game i have seen from BJ for some time. He just seemed like a fustrated man today. He wears his heart on his sleeve and it got the best of him, i would have liked to see RL move him fwd because it got to the stage where you were cringing whenever the ball was anywhere near his opponent. Picked it up like a champ in the last qtr though
