and did we not play "our best possible team last week???saintsRrising wrote:We got smacked by WC last week.
We need to play our best possible team.
I want to be finals bound rather than maximising our draft selection.
You devoted a thread to Gardiner that lasted about 15 odd pages...
So was he a wise choice last week???
Is Rix a good choice this week??
He wont be at the club in the near future IMO

A voice of reason, that suggests that McEvoy could be destroyed by playing him against a player that has only play 9 games in 4 years.....saintsRrising wrote:Ah...a voice of reason.Bernard Shakey wrote:Rix will not play.
McEvoy is nowhere near ready. Could destroy him by playing him now.
Fiora will not play. Seriously hampered by quad yesterday.
Armitage is not up to it at the moment. He will make it, but not this year.
Schneider will probably play, but I would not be surprised to see Charlie come in in his place.
I really hope X goes well this week, because he looked great at training yesterday.
Armo will make it...but I am not sure how good he will be. He at least has the knack of kicking goals.
Even I thought you had some intelligence to think that comment was way off...
but then again, you devoted that much time on Michael Gardiner, any wonder you think that

I'm a big fan of armo but think his confidence has been rocked in recent weeks.Had alot of game time on the weekend & although i'm not doubting his commitment he just couldn't find the footy & when he did made some poor decisions, but he only a kid & he's tough as nails & I think he will be a solid perfomer for us in years to come, just needs to find some form in the 2's at the moment.stinger wrote:why's ammo an out ffs....

Hey St Fid,
McEvoy is not performing up to scratch at VFL level, Why would you think he can cut it at AFL level?
He would not be just playing against the one Port player you presume.
Give the kid a break, I look forward to him having an impact next year.
Face facts, he is not ready.

So you try and play the poster rather than the post St Fid?St Fidelius wrote:

I freely discuss and take interest in ALL the players on our list.
Michael Gardiner CLEARLY demonstrated last week what happens when you play a guy in the seniors when he is not cherry ripe to do so.
Playing McEvoy in the form he has been of late in the seniors would be ludicrous and would mostly gaina similar outcome. sucha result could well shatter McEvoys cofidence and yes destoy him asa player. How many firsta round draft picks have not delivered on potential?
Michal Gardiner wil play good games for the Saints still as long as he gets fully fit which he was not last week.
Recruiting Gardiner and King, both with past injury histories, were recruited basically for free. As long one of them is fit and in form in any one week then we are going well as BOTH can perform well at tap outs as both are true ruckman.
I believe players should get spots in the 22 on merit. Sure younger guys should be a given a chance to shine...but playing someone in te seniors when they are not playing ok is bad for the club, the tea, our chances of winning...and for the player too.
Young talent needs to be developed and not just thrown to the wolves.

If Deluca plays, yes Rix should win....
but is that the path we want ...
promote a player that has no future at the club???
F*** it was a good chance to promote him and forget about Rix and Gardiner, both should go IMO

My mail is that Rix is regarded as a model clubman and is a great asset in training, club spirit etc etcSt Fidelius wrote:

The coach has rewarded this by listing him in the emergencies last week...and most likely this.
Yes he may well not be at the club next year...BUT that is not the point.
Players who put in and do what is asked need to be recognised and praised.....and this is but one method.
Have you also considered that there is also a message to McEvoy that he needs to IMPROVE to be selected?
Giving players games that are not earnt will do little to inspire them, nor will it have the work as hard as they need to in order to make it.

Yep and that's why farkin Gardiner got a gig last weeksaintsRrising wrote: Giving players games that are not earnt will do little to inspire them, nor will it have the work as hard as they need to in order to make it.
pull the other one, you are a total hypocrite ..........

Get off your high chair FFS....
Time to walk don't you think...
you did state In your considered opinion........
So just what is the reason in selecting a player that maybe up against a player that is of McEvoy's height and weight division and has a chance to learn the pace of AFL against a player that has played just 9 games in 4 years ...Yes he may well not be at the club next year
to a player that you consider may not be at the club next year (your own words)
Yep both Rix and Deluca might not play but I feel it should be both McEvoy and Deluca don't play...
Again Rix is not our future ........
Can you at least walk and get off you high chair???

Of course you are.St Fidelius wrote: So you think I am playing the poster????
Why else would you bother mentioning a thread I started on Gardiner pre-season?
Why not also mention threads where I have indicated that McEvoy is a great ruck prospect for us?
Thing is St Fid this thread is meant to be about the team playing this weekend. So what is relevant is how the players are playing right here and now, as well as their fitness.
You mentioned my pre-season thread. But am I wedded to my then expressed hope that Gardiner could recover form and fitness to be a valuable player for us in terms of this week? If you actually remember the thread it was not about that Gardiner would be a good player...but the hope that he could be again.
No. Gardiner played poorly and was deservedly dropped.
Do I yet hope that Gardiner will again displays the form that he showed mid-season? Yes I do.
Do I hope that Ben will become the stalwart of our ruck division in the future? Yes I do.
Do I believe that Ben or Gardi should b playing this week. No I don't.

I give up... gardiner is a pathetic hopeless tool that you somewhat believe can play football...saintsRrising wrote:Of course you are.St Fidelius wrote: So you think I am playing the poster????

you are pathetic to even think that gardiner can play a decent game of football after 5 years of near nothing...
Rix should NEVER play again IMO farken hopeless and yes is selected would win over a player that has played just 9 matches in 4 years.......
what a great notch that will be on Rix when he looks for another club to play for, when an opportunity was there to play a young ruck and get some development into him...
I said if before the season that he is another Mattew Allen........
The side picks a player that may be an emergency but may never play again in the seniors...
Yep a great selection
give me a farken break .....
Rix and Gardiner are FARKEN DUDS

Come on!! In all seriousness this is the worst side on paper I've seen for a long long time!!
Are there any Port trolls here reading? As surely you'd agree this is the worst squad the Port Power football club has ever fielded since there induction in 97!
Fair Dinkum!! If we don't destroy this poor excuse for a SANFL side then we won't make the 8. You can talk up the "I'll just take the win" and "don't get arrogant" lines, but seriously we should annihalate this rabble if we are anything.
Anything under 60 points will be treated as a loss .
The side should be aiming at a 90 + shollacking here and really ground these cretins into this foreign turf that they haven't touched for 7 years!
Seriously,it needs to be a blood bath on sunday if we are to impose any threat on the competition in the remaining 2 months.

St Fid...re this weeks rucks
forget about the big picture for a bit and more importantly concentrate your energies into the major goal at this specific moment of time
i.e,
(1) we Must win this Game to keep our finals aspirations alive and kicking, and hopefully win well for %(2) and our recent record v Port isn't flash
this week its all to do with our fit /in form available cattle for the 22 taking into consideration the likely opposition and matchups ....other considerations like the ones you are promoting pale in significance at round 18 given our position and percentage on the ladder
if the selectors are't on this wave length like you then god help us Sunday!

McEvoy = NOT READY
McEvoy = NOT PART OF FINALS PLANS 2008
FFS, any other argument is null and void.
Gardi and Rix's future... who cares at this stage of the year?
Let's focus on finals and winning. Let's focus on the "now" and not next year.
Why pick the Mac just because we play Port, in order to give him some game time?
Why include a weak link and remove one of the advantages we hold over them?
Why not go full strength and aim to win?
Convince me that McEvoy is in our best 22 ATM, and I'll concede.

While not arguing for McEvoy's inclusion as such (haven't seen any Casey games), I think you sometimes need to develop players in-season if you have a glaring deficiency. I also think sometimes reserves form can be misleading as a guide to how a player will perform at senior level. I do think you can be trying to win and still be developing players.
Frankly, if we are to be any chance this year we need to find another forward and/or another ruckman that can do more than just ruck. Gardiner & Rix aren’t the answer. Kosi can do the job but he’s a better forward than he is a ruckman. When he’s in the ruck for long periods we are losing a key forward for at best a break-even ruckman. Same for Blake but at the other end. Both are ideally suited to pinch hit in the ruck.
I’m not suggesting McEvoy is the answer but do we really have anything to lose by trying?
