St Kilda's Max Hudghton had scans on his calf and will have more tests today before a decision is made on his fitness for the game against Port Adelaide on Sunday

ST Kilda's Max Hudghton is likely to spend more time on the sidelines after he aggravated an existing calf problem on Saturday in Perth. Hudghton went into the match with some soreness in the left lower leg and developed more problems during the first quarter, forcing him to sit out the game after playing only 11 per cent of match time.
Max may have been annoyed to hear that some media commentators suggested that calf injuries are more associated with older players near the end of their careers, but don't write yourself off just yet, Max, as there is hope.
What is true is that this type of injury does seem to plague older players and fans may recall that James Hird, James Clement and Wayne Carey all experienced recurring calf problems late in their careers.
This year Gary Ablett, Robert Harvey, Brad Johnson, Jamie Charman and Chad Cornes are just a few of the stars who have also all missed with calf problems. ....
I wonder how Ablett feels being lumped in with the ' older guys'

if this correct (which is a big if but hell I will believe)
then hats off to the fitness group and the processes put in place. They are pulling players off when they feel pain. Long term gain for short term pain. But perhaps they need to bite the bullet when he feels sore and rest him. It might have to include tieing maxy up to stop him playing but I would rather rest him for one game (especially on a road trip to subi) then lose him for a month
If it's a twinge and thus a 1-2 week injury then rehab him for three weeks, miss the freo match and have him back for the last two weeks of the H&A season.
2 rucks plus kosi allows us to move Blake to Key back. Release BJ into the midfield and move chips down back as second key back. With tredrea and rocca out the next two weeks will not contain BIG forwards so they can cover the oppoisition forwards if the mids help out with pressure and work rate

Completely agree, especially a 4 hour flight to WA, what are we thinking?plugger66 wrote:Im not sure its hats off to the fitness group when they sent a player out there in the last 2 weeks who already had a calf problem. Very lucky it didnt go against the Hawks or we could have easily last that game as well.

apparently he still may line up this week
So look like he will be picked in the team, but could be a late withdrawl for the Sunday game.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

Why would you want to play Max?
If we cant beat Port at half strength at home without Max then pack it up now.
FFS we will virtually have an elimination final a week later against Pies and Hudgton will be needed there so rest him I say and from reading that (even though Lenny did his admiral best) hes no chance.

wondered on that- but given the spate of 'club' suspensions around the league at present maybe the journos forgot that Kosi was an AFL imposed suspension-Otiman wrote:Why would it even be newsworthy that Kosi is straight back in?

I totally agree. Yes, when Max is in the team we release players like Gram and Blake, generating run and attack. But, even if he keeps playing another couple seasons, he's getting on, so plan B needs to start forming. I'd be up for Gwilt dropping into the backline, or having Birss displace a suitible backliner.Teflon wrote:Why would you want to play Max?

Port are panicing anyway...see Burgoune's looking like getting an early reprieve from his one week intra-club suspension? Weak as.
