Look I think your looking for an opportunity to slag the coach if we lose and to tell you the truth you'll do that no matter so no need for the long winded "I got my whinge in early so Im good to go" really is there?maverick wrote:Given we picked a running side and as you say elevated two players that lack defensive pressure, I think its fair enough to question the coach if we struggle to form a forward structure and do not lay enough tackles and pressure their ball carriers enough.Teflon wrote:Oh you'll hear that for sure - probably no matter what result such is some peoples simple minds...WayneJudson42 wrote:If we lose... sack the coach
Fiora is a risk for mine, he can be a front runner and lets face it hes doedn that before BUT perhaps Lyons view is to beat the Hawks we gotta roll the dice a little...I hope his right...
We are obviously going to flood, which is a legit tactic, it would want to work, that's all....
Although Allen has given us little, and Gwilt was very down last week, what they both gave us was structure...the coach has changed the look of the team this week, which is fine, but he can't escape criticism if it doesn't work...
The players not playing to the game plan will not wash, its his job to make it happen....the players have responded to a changed plan in the last couple of weeks, to change it back to something the players have not embraced is risky...
I have put my opinion out there BEFORE the game, I will be there, expecting a good show and hoping like hell we win, same as always...
Your talk of "structure" doesnt wash with me Im afraid....players HAVE to be able to do SOMETHING on the field that usually involves touching the footy - Allen hadnt and Gwilt was dreadful last start. Should we lose Id suspect the reasons will be bigger than we dropped a kid and a second stringer....dont you?
Happy slaggin.

As usual you miss my point, if we had dropped Allen for a tall or medium marking forward or even bring in MG for the ruck, structure is sound.
How can we go into a game with 1.5 key forwards?
But hey, if we lose because of this, I will make sure I have a crack at others, can't be the bloke in charge after all....
I hope I come on here Sunday morning rapt at a great result........I just can't see it with the team we have picked

That aside slag Lyon all you like ....juts be sure though you also show some balance and praise if we win though?
For the record I dont agree with Fiora into the side...I had his last game some time ago but what do I know. Regardless, IF we lose Im not fool enough to believe that its cause we dropped Gwilt/Allen.

There won't be criticism just because we lose, my criticism is based on the way we play, how players are used and how our forward line operates, all things I think have been poor under Lyon....

And no criticism for player effort???? just "Lyon type" things?......hmm....you need to losen the agenda grip just a bit...maverick wrote:The praise will be there if we win, just as it was last week, you have to read all the posts not just the negative ones....Teflon wrote:No I didnt miss your point honestly I dont think you have much of one....as I said IMO your overrating structure ahead of performance.maverick wrote:Knew you would respond.Teflon wrote:Look I think your looking for an opportunity to slag the coach if we lose and to tell you the truth you'll do that no matter so no need for the long winded "I got my whinge in early so Im good to go" really is there?maverick wrote:Given we picked a running side and as you say elevated two players that lack defensive pressure, I think its fair enough to question the coach if we struggle to form a forward structure and do not lay enough tackles and pressure their ball carriers enough.Teflon wrote:Oh you'll hear that for sure - probably no matter what result such is some peoples simple minds...WayneJudson42 wrote:If we lose... sack the coach

Player effort gets scrutinised all the time, just because Lyon cops it doesn't mean the players don't....but its hard to have a crack at Roo when he has 3 on him, or at BJ when he's at full back picking up a ruckman or the players for chipping sideways because there's no one forward etc etc
That stuff frustrates me and is difficult to blame on the players.
Lack of gut running, poor skills under pressure or picking the wrong option is hard to blame on RL, except of course if its Dempster, Schneider or Fiora of course

Im not against criticising Lyon - ive already said I disagree on re introduing Fiora. I would have preferred see Birrs and Im not convinced sneider has done enough and personally would have been tempted to bring in another smaller player like Geary to play on Rioli down back (we have struggled containing small fwds)maverick wrote:Teflon wrote:maverick wrote:Teflon wrote:maverick wrote:Teflon wrote:maverick wrote:Agree on last three weeks by the way, last week in particular.Teflon wrote:WayneJudson42 wrote:If we lose... sack the coach

BUT
How do you know when players run down field with no one to kick to that isnt the result of poor gut running?
How do you know when we go wide, chip sideways, that isnt simply poor selection of options in moving the footy fwd by players ? - the coach has said ad nauseum, the players ad nauseum that THIS IS NOT the way we want to play.....the coach cant do it on the park.??
He CAN control selection....
Lyons clearly going for run against Hawks and doesnt want us run off.....we'll see.

When you are at the game you can see how the game unfolds, you can see the players bludge, you can see a poor decision, but when we select one key forward in Roo and half a one in Kosi, the gameplan we will be trying has been proven to be ineffective with this group before.Teflon wrote:maverick wrote:Teflon wrote:maverick wrote:Teflon wrote:maverick wrote:Teflon wrote:Im not against criticising Lyon - ive already said I disagree on re introduing Fiora. I truly dont beieve, again, that if we lose its because we dropped Allen from fwd line. IF we lose its cause we didnt apply pressure, missed opportunities in front of goal, couldnt stop their mids/supply and Buddy/Roughead got off the leash.
It will come down to who applies the better pressure and which team can handle it. Hawthorn have the edge here cause they love flood footy (especially throught the middle) and have demonstrated they have learnt their game style to the point its instinctive. It isnt for us yet IMO.
