We have persevered with him for a while now, just doesn't seem to cut it at the top level. With some key personal due back next week, l can't see him playing for the rest of the year - bar injuries........... Any thoughts ?

"Our season is still alive," Lyon said. "It's not the end for Robert."

Harvey's mates stood listening to those words, perhaps planning to keep the AFL's longest career lingering a while yet. Then turned into softcocks and blew it YET again.

Sorry for being garrulous, can't a man be resplendent with a post every now and then?

Back to the topic, he is struggling and won’t make our best 22.

Probably a good VFL player but we won’t win a flag with Gwilt in our top 22.

If Ross doesn’t like making wholesale changes though, he may keep his spot if there’s only one change next week as I think Allen may go back for a couple of weeks to get a few touches.

He's very close to being good enough, but I just can't see him taking the next step up and becoming a consistently good player. Wouldn't mind seeing Miles take his spot on the list next year.

Good some nice kudo's and backing from the previous coach on SEN today.

Basically said he was only 21, didn't have the TAC background and would take more time because of this.

Said he was a bit overweight when he first was recruited and has taken time to get an AFL conditioned body. has tremendous speed but not a huge tank.

Worth perservering with in his opinion.

Was pantsed last night but never gave up and kept trying.

I agree with the ex coach on this one.

Lance or James??

Gwilt didn't have his best night last night, but wasn't it a nice kick into the forward line that Kosi and Roo marked in the last quarter.

Worth keeping on the list and has just about established himself as a handy back up player to come into the 22 when needed.

No doubt he has ability and is steadily improving.

I was ready to delist him when the siren went. Very frustrating last night.

Gwilt seems to lack football "smarts"....but is an "athlete".

Now he may improve in his "smaert" with more games of football...but so far in his time with us he does not really seemed to have improved much in this regard.

So for me it is a worry that his "football" side does not seemed to have progressed even if athletically he has improved.

fast, really? has always looked slow to me, funny how some players look deceptively quick or slow.
saw him a bit in the pre season and his poor tank was pretty obvious, always bringing up the rear in the longer runs. he got so knackered he was barely moving at jogging pace in some of the runs. (I think he had a late start to pre seaon as well (maybe?) which wouldn't have helped)
maybe that's why I've thought he was slow, just slow when he's tired.?

I actually differ slightly to other posters on this thread.

Although I don't rate Gwilt as a player at this stage, he has been servicable the last few weeks and showing some improvement.

Clearly not in the best 22, but it is also clear that Goddard and Gram should play further up the ground and are almost the catalyst to why we are starting to look OK. He is more solid than Raph and Ferguson is not up to it at all. I would maybe consider giving him another game for stability sake.

X.Clarke, Bakes need a run or two in the magoos and M.Gardiner possibly in for Allen but I'm not sure if this will imbalance the side as we look better when kosi can use his athleticism around the ground.

OUT: Gwilt, Allen
IN: M.Gardiner, Schneider/X.Clarke/Birss

Hudghton on Roughead
Blake on Franklin
Gilbert on Williams

i think he is worth persisting with.

he is only 22 (belive it or not)
didnt come through the tac cup.
debut in round 22 '05, when we smahsed the lions,
then had that amazing final.

then was out the next season with a leg injury.
looks a likely type tho,
has improved in the last few weeks, were he has had a few games in a row.
and against the roos and blues, has done some nice runs up the ground.

well worth keeping in my opinion.

btw, leon davis took a long time to delveop

Yes, could be a star. All he has to do is:
1. Learn how to tackle
2. Learn how to pick the right option
3. Learn how to mark over head
4. Learn how to run
5. Learn how to kick both feet
6. Learn how to pick up the ball first grab
7. Learn how to dodge tackles
8. Learn how handpass forward
9. Learn how to learn

Yep, it's really simple. He will be a star.

A bit harsh terribly harsh i would say.
the only thing that Gwilty needs to learn how to do is how to use his body.

This does sound very harsh, but he really can't do any of those things. People might call this abusing your own player, but it's true.
