Bradley VS Harvey on 3AW friday
I am pre-warning Saints fans to get behind Banger when pre match this friday night 3AW debates and opens the lines (i hope) on who was better - Craig Bradley or Robert Harvey ... very interesting comparison between these two champions.
It will be interesting how they stack up stats wise so anyone that has some stats that go bangers way would be handy to have those before Friday.
I would say banger got more of his own ball in traffic.
Bradley maybe a better mark (but banger may have taken more per game through hard running) whereas Bradley may have had a higher percentage of handball receives feeding off Diesel and Ratten.
Bradley may have been a better goalkicker ... but do the numbers support that.
Bradley is a better kick 40 to 50 metres but Harvey a better kick 20 to 30 metres to a leading forward ... after he wiggled out of mid field traffic!
Where is Statsman when you need him?

Bradley's stats here

Harve's here

I thought they had a compare tool but I can't find it. Bed time!
edit - these only go from 91 so Harves may be quite different.

Per game stats with Harves on top - very messy so one of the forum wunderkinder can format it nicely if they go to the site
But... you can see there's little to separate them.
More handballs (& disposals), marks to Harves, more hitouts to Bradley,
Goals very close surprisingly.

last week someone did Williams vs Harvey
the new in survey- compare everyone to Harvey.
the biggest stat differance is that Harves is STILL playing and they aren't

of course harvey is rubbish, why not compare to hird, or buckley or voss, or carey, they are the real superstars ><
they don't like to admit it, but Harvey is one of the elite midfielders of all time.
they can do their stupid lists and comparisons till the cows come home.
'but harvey doesn't have the impact of carey"
anyone who saw harvey smash through the north melbourne players to drill the ball onto FGs chest with seconds to go to win the game won't think so.
anyone who saw harvey carve through midfield packs bouncing the balls like other players fake in sports shoe commercials won't think so.
anyone who saw harvey get cannoned, get up, shake hiis head, put his hands on his knees, and then burst away from the back bouncing the ball before drilling some forward who would probably let him down, wont think so.
anyone who saw harvey pass off the ball to a HBF in the D50, the run 100 metres to receive the ball 4 possessions later, with 3 opposition players hanging on his shirt wont think so.

Correct Harvey hasn't had too many to rely on getting it to him over the years at different times. Bradley played his best footy when there was a blokes by the name of Deisel & Ratten feeding him 24/7.jonesy wrote:Bradley and Harvey.....is this some kind of a sick joke!?
Bradley was the biggest out wide sheep dog the game has ever seen,I repeat HAS EVER SEEN! He was fine at recdieving ,one of the best at it,but to compare him to Harvey is like comparing Casson to Warne
Harvs for mine if it's a choice but it's a silly comparison totally different players.
Frawley to Ralph Smith to Grant to Dwyer to Owen to Fode to Peter Budge - Goal!

I could cop a comparison between Harvey and Williams.Eastern wrote:Another argument could be;
If Carlton thought/think that Bradley, Williams and whoever else are/were better players than Harvey WHY DID THEY OFFER HARVS SUCH HUGE AMMOUNTS OF $$$$$$$$ TO JOIN THEM ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION? !!
Comparing Harvey and Bradley is a bit like comparing Tony Lockett and Jason Heatley.

Eh Johnny Elliot??
yeah Harvey and Diesel Williams are a more keen comparison.
both considered 'too slow'
both very smart
both very powerfully built
both incredibly hard working
both capable of burst speed over short distances
both impossibly difficult to tackle
both impossibly difficult to 'put down'
both HUGE endurance tanks.
biggest differences:
1. Williams would retailiate, harvey wouldn't
2. Williams took the money, Harvey wouldn't
3. Williams carried Carlton to Premiership, Harvey didn't
if it comes down to fine skills, Williams, a fraction of second faster in thought
harvey better by foot and overhead.
Williams a fraction more mongeral, Harvey a fraction more speed.
It would have been scarey seeing Williams and Harvey in the same team, I know st kilda was willing to bet almost everything bar harvey to get williams in 91 or 92, and Carlton in 95/96 were willing to throw everything INCLUDING williams to get Harvey across.
Pretty sure Carlton would have won another premiership in 96 or 99 if harvey wore the navy blue, and tbh, I would have loved him anyway.
