who will get judd?

Post: # 599185Post bigcarl »

he's the key to carlton and take him out of it they don't look so flash.

should we double-team him?

who are the candidates?

ball? baker? blake? goddard?

i might have said gilbert if he'd been able to back up his debut season form. remember him catching (an admittedly injury-hampered) judd last season and slinging him to ground like a sack of spuds.

but gilbert is probably a long way off that sort of role going on his 2008 form. he has the attributes ... pace, strength, endurance ... but hasn't the confidence atm.

thoughts?

I reckon we need to tag Murphy and Squibs. Keep them out of the game and we should win. They're getting a lot of enthusiasm from there youngsters and it's contagious. Curb there enthusiasm

you'd look pretty good if judd was feeding it out to you.

but you are right that we shouldn't underestimate their "lesser lights".

who would we put on judd?

Don't think Bakes is fit enough otherwise he'd be the obvious one. Birss?

Yehh Bakes would'nt be fit enough.... Leigh Fisher did a good job on him last time so if he has a good game today id think they would bring him back.

judd and stevens are the ones we need to stop

if baker gets through the match bring him into play on judd and play joey as a run with on stevens. Back harvey, dal and hayes to beat their youngsters.

I'd take a guess and say Blake will be on Judd.

he does seem to be able to handle virtually any role they throw at him

He was on Harvey up until half time and Harvey was BOG until then.

McQualter did the job on Harvey after half time.

Probably be no point in having this forum if we used that attitude for everything lol.

McQ would be a risk, I hope they are not grooming him to be a run with player cos we have two of them already in Bakes and Attard.
However they may be grooming him to know where the ball goes and where to be to get it but I think it would be carnage.
Hayes should just go one on one with him but if not Eddy has the tank but too green.
Goddard would love the challenge.
Start with Hayes, let's win the game!

We really need someone on Judd who would be prepared to "test out" the groin, ribs, cheekbone and whatever else that was rumoured to keep him out of the last game. Do we have anyone nicknamed Doctor? !!

I think several players will be mindfull of Judd during the game. Baker; if fit would be an obvious choice as he has done well in the past. He couldn't do it on his own though through lack of match fitness, but he has a great ability to ruffle his feathers. I would do a 3 way rotation tag of Baker, Ball and Dal (good instructive lesson for Dal).

We have to be mindful of their other great midfielders (tanking rewards) of Gibbs & Murphy but hopefully our forward line will be able to exploite their obvious backline weakness.

While I'll be surprised if it's the view taken by the selectors, IMO if Baker's not fit enough, we don't have anyone capable of tagging Judd out of his clearance work... Fisher's job on him was fine early, but Judd was in much dodgier fitness himself for that game.

I'd be looking at Ball to go head to head with Judd, Dal/Goddard on Stevens, and expect Hayes to be able to give the edge as a result over whoever else is in the middle. From there I'd adapt as the game develops, but we should be able to handle Carlton's mids, which is why I'm fairly confidant of this game.

As for what actually happens, I'll throw a guess that we give Mini the tag job, but I'll gladly admit that while I suspect we will see a tag I haven't got a clue what we'll do in this dept.

Probably Carlton.

They have more more draft picks to offer WCE than Collingwood.

I personally would not be unhappy if Blake got the job on Judd, he has the tank to go with him and the size and body strength to worry him and "test" him if need be.

We do have some other options such as Joey, Mini, Geary and mabey even BJ (as someone else suggested) but for mine Blake would be first up. Personally I would like to see Baker play 1 more week at Casey, in such an important game I would be hesitant to risk him.

As for Murphy and Gibbs, Judd is the measuring stick of their side IMHO and if we limit or shut him out of the game their younger players will be put under a lot of pressure to perform and with the midfield we have they might be hard pressed to win the ball if their captain and biggest star is blanketed.

Ball is the man for the job - Judd gets all his poss in close. Mont & Blake don't like it in there. Baker normally.

Ball's value is in getting contested ball, not in following one of the elite

around. Sam Fisher is the one I would use because if Judd only wants to

run one way than Fisher will hurt Carlton with his disposal.

IMO they will rotate fisher and MQr on him. Murphy's dispopsal is not damaging enough to warrant a tag yet.

Our mids should out muscle theirs. Depending on the conditions, i'd be surprised if we didn't rip their hearts out in this game.

P.S. The $1.85 on offer for us on the game should be money for jam.

If you see some guy laughing down the street on the way to westpac on saturday morning that would be me
