Unique occurences at St Kilda games

Post: # 597098Post avid »

1: Penalty spot goal kick for interchange infringement, June 2008
2: Behind scored before end of game disallowed due to siren/timekeeper malfunction, 2007
3: Umpire marks ball in play, 200?
4: Lights go out, part of game replayed during week, 1995?
5: Pig on ground, 199?

Is there something special about the Saints that all these weird things happen to us?
I can't think of any team that would have had more than one comparable 'unique occurence' happen to them.
Any explanations? Any other examples?

(Hold on, Fremantle already has obviously had two of them: see above. There goes the theory!)

Didn't West Coast call for a count of players on the ground at Waverley against us once?

It was a night game and was at Subi - and we won. Can't remember year though, possibly late 90s.

Lets not forget the only team to have Premiership points taken off them for playing an incorrectly registered player (Doug Cox)

Also we played two ex-Swans players mid-season the day after they went to court for restraint of trade.

Actually it was only Fsochini's case that went to Court and after he won, the football world were expecting him to play.
What they were not expecting (and simply dumbfounded at) was that Morwood would take the Foschini case as a 'precedent' and also play!

That day was also the senior debut of a kid from Ballarat called Anthony Lockett.

How about Rd 14 1978 - Arden St against the Roos coached by Barassi. Robert Elliott shoots for goal after the siren and with thousands of spectators on the ground whilst he coming in for his shot - the ball is touched by just about everyone on the ground before it crosses the line - however, the goal umpire (good on him!!) signals = GOAL!! We win by 5 points!! Barassi is fuming - a young yipper runs onto the ground and whilst passing the still fuming Barassi - delivers a massive sledge about where he should stick his opinion!!

Goal umpire later said he couldn't tell if it was a spectator or player that touched the ball, so paid a goal.

the WACA in round 22 of 1999.

We won comfortably after a 9 goal second term.

the pig incident was 1993 I believe.

Also we have won a game on protest in 1900 against the dees, and also had the points taken off us in about 1915ish against the Cats (not sure of the exact reasoning, but im sure it could be found somewhere).

Somebody might know when this was. I was at the 'G when the scoreboard caught fire. Not just a bit, there were flames and black smoke spouting out of it. Can't remember if it was a Saints game or the cricket. Anyone recall that?

It was footy - not the Saints!! Rich vs North from memory - cameras picked up then AFL Chief Wayne Jackson sprinting across the ground over to the scoreboard to heklp sort things out.

sirengate was 2006
and peter carey's mark was 1999
There was also 'whispers in the sky' 2005- when a businessman overheard the umpires saying that they got Freo the win in the game that Justin Longmuir won after the siren.
How about our first win in 1900- we appealled and got the points mid-week after a Melbourne point was disallowed because it was kicked after the 3qtr time siren.
Kosi being knocked out by an umpire for Casey reserves and fainting on national TV 2006.

scoreboard on fire was richmond v carlton- r22 1999- same weekend as McKenna's headcount. It was Jeff Gieschen's last game as Richmond coach.

1993 I think?? I played in the vickick at half time at that game. My only footy claim to fame!!! It was about -5 degrees, and all I remember was a massive black cloud coming over the sir kenneth luke stand.
