This little passage of play tells a lot about us today:
Montagna gets it 70m from goal, kicks back to wing to Gilbo, goes to Sam Fisher in centre, to Blake, long bomb, Milne to top of square but North take it away.

I've just read the first 5 pages of this thread.
Whilst I agree the first 45 minutes were pathetic, some of the comments from posters in this thread should make them ashamed of themselves.
Or at the least severely embarassed.

I posted a lot on the first five pages, and I did my best to be as accurate as I could, describing the scoring and so on. I do this because I've been in places where I couldn't get radio or TV coverage, and this site was all I could rely on. I don't think my comments were negative... I was really thrilled with the win.

I read it from beginning to end when I got home last night, and was forcefully reminded why I never read the game threads.Enrico_Misso wrote:I've just read the first 5 pages of this thread.

That's a bit rich coming from you in light of your discraceful post on Raph Clarke this week. By the way did I miss your apology. It was truly a discrace and made me ashamed to be part of this forum.
yeah down hill skier is milne, of his 150 games he's scored at least 1 goal in 125 of them.
thats pretty consistent.
300 goals in his career.
further the ONLY small forward to be more accurate and consistant than Milne is jeff Farmer.
i'd like anyone to point at any other small forward who has deliver MORE in his career currently playing football than milney, besides farmer.
really the milne hatred is pretty stupid.
who you gonna replace him with? another small forward who scores 1 goal a game?
if its so damn easy for small forwards to score goals, THEN WHY AREN"T OTHER SMALL FORWARDS DOING THE SAME?
as for down hill skying, its probably his down hill goals that bolster our palty % keeping us in the 8.
Milne isn't and never will be judd, dal santo, or any of those other players, he is a goal scoring small forward and he delivers.
and i think his season in 08 has been good given how much time he spends on the pine and in the back half of hte ground.
be thankful we don't have some one like Rodan celebrating rushed behinds.

will add this to another thread but reading back over it really comes to mind how milne change his play from early in the second once roo, kosi and allen started causing marking contests and spillages. Milne started to look less for the leading mark and more on reading the crumb. Missed some, crumbed others and was caught but did what a good forward pocket should do.
Yes his goals were great but putting himself into that position shows that he is starting to understand his role, even after all these years.. he used to drift off the back for cheap ones, now he is crumbing from the front, which is very important.
Thats why we were able to keep the ball in the forward 50 so much in the third and final quarters. Add to that the tackling and pressure (even chasing and touching the back of the player can create pressure) and you can see where this result turned for us.

Hi Solar
Just got up this morning. It's 2am here, but I stayed up all night last night to listen to the game. It started on the radio at 4am, so I just stayed up all night, because it was a big match. So, after the game, I went to bed and slept till about 4pm... my sleeping hours are still off now.
BUT WHAT A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. That was absolutely tremendous.
It's been a while since I felt that way about a game. The boys were terrific!

I still think that is a bit of backhander to Milne.
It is not Milnes fault if he is caught lone man out against two defenders in a marking contest. And how many times has that happened this year, and especially in the first half last night.
He was front and center at many contests last night, but generally has found it hard since the absence of Gehrig, who never let the ball go behind him.
He will always struggle with Roo because he is so mobile, and usually underruns the flight of the ball.
And Kosi is entirely an unknown force...
He plays stoppages really well.
The point is you dont get to have his record if you are a hack. Full stop.
