Re: Ben Cousins
I assume you mean this year?123 wrote:I heard on sen today that cousins is most likely to go to sandi next year. does that mean the saints will be getting him?
At the start of this year I would've taken him in a second however the chances of us playing for the premiership anytime soon are quite slim. However if the coaching staff considered us a genuine threat in the next 2-3 years then he would be well worth a pre-season draft selection.

Or any other Club who chooses to select him in the fraft, if he actually nominates for it.123 wrote:well is to sign this year and he cant play for an afl team this year, so geelong 2nds and collingwood 2nds are out. WHat he is reportedly doing is 'nominating for the VFL' before the June 30 Registration deadline passes.
It has absolutely nothing to do withwho he would be going to next year if he was available to be drafted.
Most Leagues in Victoria (besides the AFL) have a June 30 deadline for registration of players.

technically yes, but why would you choose a vfl team that was not affiliated with your afl club of choice?
Cousins is in no position to be choosing his club. As someone said above, it is unlikely many clubs would be showing any interest in him. However going by Ross Lyon on SEN tonight he hasn't ruled him out however he mentioned Ben would need to prove his fitness/health/attitude before being considered.123 wrote:LENNY LEADS THE WAY wrote:A afl player is aligned to a vfl team a vfl player is not aligned to a AFL team understand?123 wrote:right well its confirmed! thanksLENNY LEADS THE WAY wrote:No matey123 wrote:well is to sign this year and he cant play for an afl team this year, so geelong 2nds and collingwood 2nds are out. Has also been seen regularly meeting with his old coach, Mick Malthouse.123 wrote:his 'choice' may simply be the one club that has shown interest, st kilda.
VFL club mentioned tonight on the news, either Channel Ten or Nine, was Port Melbourne and Gary Ayres (their coach) has reportedly said he would be welcome to train with them.
Both Laidley and Ratten have also said today that Ben doesn't fit the type of player they are looking to recruit due in part to his age (he is 30 on Monday) and the time he has had out of the game.
Will be interesting to see if anyone is prepared give him a second chance and the conditions attached to his recruitment. Â
