Fraser Gehrig

Post: # 593252Post golden hawk »

I would love to see him get another game or two in to him and you win but i feel that he may not come back after he recovers from this surgery i hope that i am wrong and he does and that maybe just maybe get some good games out of him and get to the G/F and have that a fitting send off if he decides to leave if that was to happen .

and that would give Robert Havery a G/F too and that would be great as i feel that he is a legend and deserves to be in a G/F .

what do you guys reckon will he be back i hope so

Yeah he really is a genuiniely great bloke, which a lot of people would probably be surprised about, TBH though he is probably done, if we can't make the finals he will probably get a send off game...

Great bloke...

But I can't even bring myself to contemplate his return.

Agree.

It's a shame...but he's gone, doesn't have the speed, flexibility or ability to play anymore.

he had a perfectly good send off game last year against the tigs i would be putting all our efforts into playing the future not giving frase a send off game .... im a huge Gtrain fan and i wish him all the best but this is about the greater good of the team and that means fraser shouldnt play again

GOALKICKING ace Fraser Gehrig is making steady progress in his bid to salvage an injury-interrupted season.

Gehrig ran strongly yesterday as he gradually builds up fitness after hand surgery this month.

Looking trim and keen, the dual Coleman medallist joined teammates for a light training session at Moorabbin.

Asked when Gehrig could play again, Saints football operations manager Matthew Drain said: "It's not about a time frame. It's when he and the coaching staff and medical staff feel he's ready to go."

While the full-forward is back doing ball work, this time he ran three-quarter pace laps with young Eljay Connors, who is out for the rest of the season after a shoulder operation.

The 32-year-old has recovered from surgery to his right hand and is training with just a protective guard on his middle finger.

He will consult medical staff on how best to manage the arthritis in his hands.

"We've been pleased with the progress he has made post-surgery. He's one of the hardest workers and most determined and he's an inspiration to the younger guys," Drain said...................................................

Fraser hasn't been able to pick up the ball easily nor tackle well for a few years. But that didn't stop him winning two coalman medals.

I feel he started struggling when we changed our gameplan.

I would love to see him come back, but stay in the goal square when everyone else floods.

When his footy days are done whenever that is............I hope we engage him as a forward coach. His work ethics is exemplar........he is a cunning old fox on the front line.......he has the respect of the team from what i read here.........he must surely do better than our present forward coach............

From the article above:
"St Kilda can bring back Gehrig at any time as it did not promote a replacement to the senior list when he was told to rest for two months."

Wasnt Rob Eddy promoted for the Train so he could play last weekend?

I think Eddy was promoted for Eljay Connors.

I suffer from arthritis, so I have a fair idea of the pain Fraser would have been putting up with. If his operation is a success, he could successfully come back. God knows we need someone who can kick goals.

I recently wrote how much I miss the big Frase. I would be the happiest person alive if he came back even for just a game to be able to say goodbye. I would also love to be able to have a chat to Frase. I never know why St Kilda dont take advantage of the fact we would give good money to be able to have a minute or two with players. Every other team has so many opportunities but St Kilda does nothing.

Well I will keep hoping Frase returns. I have been sad every since he stopped playing. I love going to the games but is not the same anymore for me.

I don't agree that he should make room for younger players.

We don't have anyone to replace him :(. Bring him back!

Lets give the big fella another go.

Right now we need someone to boot some goals.

If Gehrig gets the right delivery.....he could kick 3 or 4 a game for us as the year winds up.

After all he's given us, we owe it to him to give the big fella 1 more go.

Will take a good defender. At the very least, that could come in real handy.

I agree. We have nothing to lose on this one, IMO.
We should try and lure KG up forward too. Ah, those Celts! 8-)

That ruptured thumb tendon in late '05, when he told the Doc's to stick their Op's, is probably pretty close to contributory. Yet, he played on, and was our best forward for 6 weeks after.

Fraser's got grunt and a great record. Fine player.

he is probably our best player, to play through injury.
i remember down at subi against freo, he had the full glove on, and
it had been documented about it being broken?? or something.
and parker? freos fullback then, jsut kept hitting it, and it got to the stage when frase held his hand out and pretty much said, go ahead hit it,
i dont feel a thing.
haha

tank.
