Was played as a defensive midfielder for the first time in a long time, how did you all see his game?

A game high 8 tackles, but didn't get much of the ball.

I thought it was a good plan and it worked well - it caught them by surprise.

Bell had zero influence on the game so if that was Joey's role, then he played a good game. Still out of sorts though.

Montagna is another like NDS with no defensive side, though at least RL is trying to get his defensive game up to scratch with some defensive roles..just needs to go a bit harder.

Sacrificed his game for the side. I thought he was a real positive

Thats interesting, I didn't pick up on that on TV. So if thats the case, I would say he had a good game. Loved the way he and the senior players treated the young kids at the end of the game celebrations. And looooooove this tapping of the heart that Goddard does.

You clearly didn't see him live, or if you did you didn't see the amount of hard running he did to create space for others. I thought it was his best game of the year in terms of effort and hard running, which we all saw last year. Confidence and form can only grow from effort like that.

too early to tell

But I think he did well last night but need to be able to show that he can hold and break from an opponent

Did a good job keeping an important player quiet. We can't have 22 players playing blinders every week but if we have 22 doing their job we will win more than we lose. Joey did his job this week.

if he keeps playing like he did I think we could get close to teams like hawthorn and adelaide if all the others play well

Played his role well - and helped the team. Started to do a few of the hard team things (blocks, tackling, hard running taking his opponent out of the play) and also kept Bell from doing too much damage. Good job Joey.

A better effort from Joey but still blasts the ball forward without looking. For a bloke with a reputation for being quite skillful he wastes way too many possessions.

Still a question mark over him... IMO he's expendable at present for the right deal.

i think rossy said to him he doesnt care how many easy possessions he gets he wants him to be hard and take bell out of the game . he did that and then some i think RL will be happy with joeys efforts

good effort on bell which released gram to play his best game. Sometimes you need to go back to basics and run with players to get your touch and confidence back. Have a feeling ross is trying to do this with a couple of our players.
