There is no room in the ground for a devolopment size that the Saints want. Where is the room. No wings and either end of the ground isnt big enough.Bernard Shakey wrote:There is plenty of room at Trevor Barker Oval.
I had a look yesterday.
It's just a matter of whether or not Bayside Council would approve the development.

Check out Sandy Yacht club down the road towards the beach from TB Oval, have a look at the two storey clubhouse building, the size of the carpark and tell me what you think of my left-field idea???Bernard Shakey wrote:There is plenty of room at Trevor Barker Oval.

And here's the real deal:
http://www.frankstonleader.com.au/artic ... _news.html
• not too close to the heart of Frankston, where the players and fans can go for a coffee
• not in a location right in a vibrant activity centre
• not in sight of the beach, where the players could walk to for recovery
• no romance of a seaside location
• no Frankston VFL team that we'll share our home with
• those drawings of our new facility looked fantastic – but we couldn’t afford them.
Reality starts to bite, and hard.

Belvedere Park - Melways Map 100 A4Paul Amy writes wrote: ST KILDA boss Archie Fraser today revealed the club was reconsidering its move to Frankston Park.
The sensational development comes as the club revealed a massive $5 million blow-out in costs in redeveloping the football ground.
The financial crunch led Fraser to admit today that the Saints might look to other sites in Frankston if costs could not be reined in.
It’s believed Belvedere Park, which has been earmarked as a potential training venue for TAC Cup team the Dandenong Stingrays, is one alternative.
St Kilda’s contribution to the $10.25m elite training facility and administration centre at Frankston Park was put at $1.5 million when the project was announced amid great fanfare last November.
But it has got as high as $5 million, due largely to rising steel prices and building restrictions on the site.
``In terms of the price, yes, it has come in higher than we’d all like, but we’re working through that at the moment,’’ Fraser said on Thursday morning.
``The whole thing pushed out to $16.25 million. We’ve been able to knock it back to about $14.25 million. We’ve had two or three meetings where we’ve been trying to cut things out that might have been niceties, as opposed to cutting back on the actual size of the building.’’
While Frankston Council, the State Government and the AFL are all contributing to the development, Fraser said the Saints would have to pay for the extra costs.
Although the club was debt-free, ``we’re not jumping in at $14 million’’, he said.
``What we’re really doing now is having a good look at it, to see if it can be `engineered down’ a little bit, while at the same time being an elite facility that meets all our requirements,’’ Fraser said.
``The more we can close the gap, the less money we have to find. We don’t want to be putting in $5 million when we thought we’d be putting in $1.25 million.
``We thought $1.25 million would tun into $2 million, maybe $2.5 million, but nowhere near $5 million.’’
Fraser said St Kilda was still intent on moving to Frankston.
``That’s 100 per cent. What we might have to do is start looking at other sites within the city council area,’’ he said.
``The key thing from the Saints’ point of view is that we’re going to be in Frankston and hopefully we’re going to be at Frankston Park. We want to make this work.’’

Kingston were happy to see us go. No chance they'd welcome us back.saintspremiers wrote:I wonder if Moorabbin can now go back on the agenda again if those Kingston Councillors perhaps see the light?
Particularly after the public drubbing given by AF in the media last year.
Frankston will still happen. All AF is trying to do is play the media game, like he did with Kingston, to get more money into the project or they will threaten to back out.
It worked a treat last time he played this game, so go for it Arch.

Too much of a conflict with cricket as far as I know. The VCA have a contract to play the district final there every year & that's why the Dees couldn't train there over summer. Melbourne left there due to not being able to do anything with the ground & that probably means we'll be no chance either.bergsone wrote:That though just crossed my mind too, sure to be a lot of pro and cons, butworth some though?spert wrote:mm..maybe the Junction Oval is worth another go?

Just another administrative cluster!
Just another administrative cluster by the St Kilda FC. Surely before your President & CEO go spruking off to the media and fans about an exciting move they would have done their research and costings on the project...
Just another group of incompetent fools we have running our club!

Archie suggested that price of steel and other building costs have blown things out..we'll Im sure steel prices haven't risen that dramatically and building costs should have been investigated and costed to a close approximation by the time of the announcement of the relocation..sounds like a load of crap.

We played our last game at the Junction Oval (as our home ground) in 1964 and defeated Geelong by three goals and our first home game at Moorabbin in 1965, and defeated Collingwood by one goal.Bernard Shakey wrote:We left the Junction Oval in 1965 because of cricket.
Ah, the good old days!
No doubt, the St Kilda Cricket Club was the major reason.
Why doesn't someone suggest a training oval at Docklands somewhere - it could do with a bit of green amidst the concrete jungle.

Price of steel's gone up by about 10% over the last few weeks...from my experience. Still, could be crap, as you say.spert wrote:Archie suggested that price of steel and other building costs have blown things out..we'll Im sure steel prices haven't risen that dramatically and building costs should have been investigated and costed to a close approximation by the time of the announcement of the relocation..sounds like a load of crap.

What and when will be the official 2008 announcement?
If its going to be Belvedere Park, then the people who said Casey Fields is in the boonies might need to steel themselves for a shock.

Agree with you Casey Scorp. Frankston seemed a strange choice considering what Casey had to offer.
Just spent 15 min trying to find Belvedere Oval on the net . No offence to those that live out there but it not quite the real estate (wow factor) that you would have thought an AFL team would be seeking.
I would think the consultants should have their heads on the chopping block. Go check out Stratcorp's website and what there involvement was in this process. They were paid to give advice and get it right. The checks and balances weren't there. Ultimately its Archie's responsibility and he knows it.
We'll wait and see where the next site will be. One thing is for sure it won't be at Moorabbin (bridges are too far burnt) or Casey (Melbourne saw the opportunity).

while you two chat away to each other from your respective council chambers, can you just accept it....you lost. The Saints are gone
The club will be building at Frankston and you both missed out....sorry
Move on Casey, you will get Melbourne, we only have to go to Sandy to watch the 2's instead of that wind swept hollow and Saintly 63 or 73 whatever...you know that the Saints are gone from Moorabbin and Kingston and you also know that its not the right thing for your rate payers but you still allowed it to happen....
Our best is yet
to come......
