This thread should be deleted,.....MODS ??????????
I am now having nightmarish flashbacks...this is one cruel thread
I paid money to see those people play football
The likes of Joffa, Burns, harvs, the Eel, Barks etc must have felt like superstars amongst them.
Did anyone mention the man king of the mountain..Dax???

Beetham had the talent but no desire and imo didnt deserve to go in the squad. Would have loved to see him fulfil his potential.skeptic wrote:May not be stars but these guys weren't that bad and don't deserve to be theresuper dooper wrote: B C.Davis M.Gale S.Cranage

Instead
Put Gavin Mitchell in the pocket
Ben Walton on the ball
Caydn Beetham in the pocket
My memory of Gavin Mitchell is those red boots and his goal against west coast in 98 when crippsy did his hamstring off the bone. That holding the ball decision against McIntosh on the boundary and good old stan Alves having a heart attack in the coaches box punching the glass for everyone to drop back for the last 30 seconds.
Those were the days when we had a coach who could actually coach a squad and showed some passion, instead of the dribble that is presented to us each week in post match interviews.
As for Justin Plapp, i think u may need to see the video tape again lol, he was my first choice on the whole team! Just my opinion i guess
Perhaps ur right about Walton for McGough though...

my memory of Plapp:
A game against Port in 2001 (i think) where we were getting smashed and he took contested mark after contested mark in the backline and then after half-time was swung forward where he kicked a few goals and got us back in the game... thought he could have been special
Mitchell just couldn't get the pill
Funny how ppl c things differently

Re: Pick your worst ever saints team!
I'm going up to Sydney this week end with Mal and his family to watch his son Nick play for the Swans, probably their reserves. Can't remember his one game, I met him much later. A nicer bloke and family you couldn't wish to meet. I'll ask him whether there may be more deserving 'hacks' who were given more than one game.the shadow wrote:I thought I might liven things up a bit seeing as most loyal sainters are feeling a bit flat at the moment. Just a bit of fun I had with some mates the other night. As long suffering sainters, who saw our fair share of games in the 80's, we came up with our worst ever side (post 1980). Only qualifications were the players had to have played at least one senior game (Rules out Greg Dax, the guy we recruited because he won the Wycheproof "King of the Mountain" 3 years running. Good at carrying sacks of wheat up a steep incline, not so great at football!), and must have played between now and 1980.
If you think we are not travelling well at the moment, cast your minds back to when those mentioned below were running around in the red white and black! Things could be worse! I challenge anyone out there to come up with a saints team that could be beaten by this collection!
B: Cowie Pirrie Park
HB Lister Windbanks Greetham
C: Hanson Amoore Greg Sharp
HF: McNicholl Capsalis Rohan Smith
F: Misso Arnol Malcolm Smith
R Godsell Discher
Rov Jenkins
I/C: Fred Campbell Thornborrow Faletic Kitchen
Emergencies: Brooks Frost Nugent
Coach: Graham Gellie (Be hard, be strong, be like me; my name is Gellie!)
What was so bad about his game that day that he makes the worst side in our past 30 years? Did everyone else who's run around in the VFL / AFL pick up Brownlow votes or make their team's best in their first game?
For the record, his family, including Nick are mad Saint supporters. Nick may have altered allegiances however. I'm still filthy we picked up Howard and rookied CJ and missed out on Nick. Only time will tell whether my angst is justified.
