brilliant news.
I know people that live in Cranny will have a sook about it, and Caseyscorp will not be happy, but they had a run that lasted way, way too long.
I've never been to Casey Fields - I'd need 20 bucks worth of fuel & Melways to find the joint, whereas Sandy recognises our heartland which will always be Bayside.
AFL footy is useless with little pre school aged kids, whereas VFL is perfect.
I can kick a footy with the kids at Sandy 10 times a year from next year - not quite as good as being a kid myself and doing it at Moorabbin at Saints games, but as close as you can get!!
Now we have an alignment in the right part of town, the real St Kilda tradition can continue at long last!

ST KILDA will change its VFL affiliation from Casey to Sandringham after this season. The move clears the way for Melbourne to join forces with the Scorpions - the Demons are currently aligned with Sandringham - as it looks to establish a training base in the City of Casey.
“We’ve had a long a successful partnership with Casey and we thank them for this. We’ll see the year out together and then part ways – it will be a pleasant and mutually understanding break-up,â€

sorry for THEM??luckysaint wrote:For what it's worth i feel sorry for the scorps after everything that we put them through in the last couple of years. I really hope that everything turns out well for them with Melbourne, and that it works out to be a better partnership than the one that we've had.
Are you kidding yourself?
What about sorry for all the Saints supporters that have been deprived of our common sense alignment for more than 10 years?
To the Scorpions - thank you and goodbye - we owe them nothing.

Have to agree with this... I would never have gone to Casey to watch a game but am really looking forward to going to Sandy to watch some footy ..saintspremiers wrote:sorry for THEM??luckysaint wrote:For what it's worth i feel sorry for the scorps after everything that we put them through in the last couple of years. yep, correct, that's exactly what we did.luckysaint wrote:bs Saintspremiers. I was indicating the changes that we forced them to make in the wake of last year or the year before, where we basically told them to take their soul & direction and shove it.
We are an AFL club, they are a VFL club - we have the money and power to force them to do what suits us.
A VFL club is a prostitute for an AFL club - that's the only way it can work.
Harsh but true, and I hope we assert the same autocracy over the Zebras.
Anyway, I'm glad you are arguing with me.....was a bit too much one way traffic on this thread, good to see the "other" POV!

very good news,
always made sense, especially with the push from melbourne to develop a training base in casey. Sandy are a powerhouse club and this should allow our young players the chance to play consistant finals in the VFL. Will also mean it's easier to see games and more TV exposure
Anyone know what hutchy's coaching contract is? From memory it was signed with most money coming from the saints so I would be interested to see where this goes. Been great to have a VFL coach who has the AFL clubs development in mind (ie. playing mcenvoy in the ruck etc.)

Thats just plain stupidy... Think of the consequences and the negative image it would give the club.saintspremiers wrote:good idea to stick out the year with Cranny Scorps, as they are in the top part of the ladder.
If they were down the bottom, it would've been worth dumping them immediately.
Might want to think before posting.

I acknowledge that. Maybe i am being a bit sanctimonious, but it still seems stupid that we forced those changes upon them only to up and leave a year or two later. Still if they get a better deal from melbourne, it will work out best for everyone.saintspremiers wrote:yep, correct, that's exactly what we did.luckysaint wrote:bs Saintspremiers. Don't see how the Zebras will like it if we did a 'casey' to them

was just chatting with someone just before and don't quote me but from memory it was because we continued on having a stkilda seconds in the revamped VFL (VFA) when the reserves was closed by the AFL. Melbourne decided to get in early and affilate with sandy.JeffDunne wrote:Does anyone remember why we didn't do this 10 years ago?
Intrestingly our decision to move to frankston as our training base has in fact lead to this situation. Casey were rejected and managed to lure Melbourne into discussions, therefore pushing sandy to look for someone else.
Good outcome for everyone, casey get a AFL club down there over summer and a ability to access their players during these periods. Frankston are under no pressure to go against their stand alone mandate and the saints get a training base down the bottom of the mornington perninsula as well as a foothold in the heartland.
