Why we need a decisive win

Post: # 580628Post 3rd generation saint »

If we are a genuine finals contender, then not only do we need to win this week, but we need a decisive win.
I say this because only a decisive win will make other teams sit up and take notice.
Let's take the example of North Melbourne, despite finishing top 4 last year, did anyone here really consider them a top 4 team. Yes they won their games, but that was all they did, just won their games. North never smashed anyone, their percentage was ordinary for the wins they had and when they competed against the other top 4 sides in the finals, well we all know what happened.
Same thing happened recently with them, they fell in against the Bulldogs and then were smashed last week.
On the other hand look at Collingwood and Sydney, Collingwood didn't just beat Geelong, they belted them and it made everyone notice, Sydney are belting sides right now and everyone is noticing, suddenly these sides are in the premiership hunt. As are the Bulldogs because they smacked the number two contender last week in Hawthorn.
So yes any sort of win is nice, but we need to make a statement, a statement that says were back and look out we are coming and we do that by not just beating the Bulldogs but beating them comfortably.

does it matter what anyone thinks?

If no-one thinks we are a finals contender but we actually are does it matter.

I would like to win and then win big, but all that winning big is going to do is get the media pumping us up again and giving the players a big head again.

A win will get the media going this week if we beat the dogs and they will finish us off also if we get done.

Who cares what others think a one piont win will do me this week

It's not just the media hype i was talking about, it is earning a bit of respect again and also gaining some momentum.

I guess this depends by what you mean by decisive. Do you mean by a large margin.....or ??

The Dogs have bee in good form and easilly accounted for an admitedly undermanned Hawks last week.

I would think that any win is more than fine at present.

But yes I will be looking for a good effort for the majority of the game....but without such an effort I do not think that we would win in the first place.

Our coach doesn't think we need to win :

TBH, I'm getting more than a little tired of this b/s from Ross.

Get some f***ing urgency FFS!!!

I think a win would be decisive enough for me! I have a good feeling about the game. I truly believe that we have what it takes to get the 4 points and hopefully by the final siren i will be right!

A win is a win .... I'd take a win anyday. That goes without saying.

You can talk about top four and ladder positions until the cows come home.

The bottom line is that if you just keep winning, the ladder looks after itself.

However, I reckon this side is now one of the least respected in the comp.

Would be nice to just smash a top side. Not just on the scoreboard, but physically hammer home a win against quality opposition.

Respect is earned.

Good post 3 rd generation...understand what others are saying re a win is a win but a decisive win would do a lot for the confidence of the players going forward especially the following week against the swines in Sydney.

Mind you I would settle for a narrow win this week against the bullies :?

Would get things back on track in a big way.

Any win against a league leader in not only ladder position but also contested footy would be decisive.

You think the Kangas are walking around disappointed with their one kick win over the Doggies?
