Media and supporters on Westaways comments....
The way people (media and some posters) have taken the comments from GW is absurd.
He did not say he will give Ross Lyon a 10 year contract - he said that stability is important and a coach should stay there for an extended period to be able to have real success.
He did say we are rebuilding - this does not mean we are starting again. he did say that there we were suboptimal and we needed to build from there. Which is true.
So many people taking every word so freakin' literally and the media is then reporting it. Ridiculous. Stupid. Use some common sense people. If he was calling for RL's head we including the media would be screaming about the lack of stability.
FFS.
/end rant

i had about five or six idiots come up to me today saying "why did you sign him for 10 years."
all westaway said, really, is that stability is important to a club and i agree with him. there's been way too much knee-jerk stuff in this club's history and a lesson learned late is better than not at all.
i think lyon will see out his contract ... this year and next ... and then the club will re-assess.
whether he "lives" or "dies" will depend on the results he gets in the next season and a half.

Read the whole transcript . He is not clear in what he is saying. A person in his position should be clear in his statements therefore not leaving it up to interpretation, . He even concludes his statement by showing his expert football knowledge by suggesting playing football is just like playing golf and the players should relax more during the game.... wtf? He would have been better saying nothing then the whole media and supporters alike would not have to guess what he meant . He says we are rebuilding , the Captain later clearly says we are notfingers wrote:The way people (media and some posters) have taken the comments from GW is absurd.

Absolute nonsense. His golf story was about players playing in their heads too much rather than letting their natural instinct and skill lead them.supersaints wrote:Read the whole transcript . I hope I am wrong about this but all the signs I have seen suggest that Westaway is like a rabbit in the spotlight and has absolutely no idea about what he is doing. If that is the case, we need Burkey to step in and take a more prominent role steer the ship both privately and publicly.
Dont forget that his very first public statement was a drug taking allegation that he quickly backed away from from and he seems to be opening his mouth only when he needs to change feet.
I do hope that I am reading this wrong for the good of the club but the signds are not good

He was qouted ....
Westaway, who has former players Andrew Thompson and Nathan Burke as football directors, said he believed the players had to relax.
He likened football to golf.
"The harder you play, the harder you try, the worse you go. If you relax a little bit and take a deep breath . . . that's what I think they need to do," Westaway said.
"Just relax and let your natural ability come out, not be too intense about it.
Now - Where is the bit about players playing in their heads (or did you just interperet that yourself ???) he speaks absolute dribble....
Who knows you may be right " I did mot have sex with that woman"
may one day be quated along side " Football is like golf" - "just relax"

Fair Dinkum if you dont have the intelligence to see the analogy was in direct reference to the mental attitude of the players you shouldn't even be commenting.supersaints wrote:

I am no fan of Westaway however his comments were fair and it would only be someone of extremely limited intelligence who would take what he said literally.
Fair Dinkum talk about making a mountain out of a simple analogy.
Lance or James??

What a crock. He isnt there to make comments on the mental aptitude of players with dumb arse analogies! Run the admin and fiscal side of the club, thats your job. Anyway what BS you speak. Every President is there to stabilise the club when a problem arises. He and the board saw a problem brewing with hysterics like most on this forum and got on the front foot.
I suppose you want him sacked as well???

His comments were confusing (otherwise the media and other people would know not be speculating or second guessing) . Iv'e said enough about the golf story (if relaxing is the secret to football success, I suggest he tells the coach - and hires you has the clubs intelligence trainer).

I agree with JB, let's not get carried away about all this.
Talking to the media is clearly not one of GW's strengths (I'm sure he's fabulous with his trucks), but he got his point across ok IMO
He was trying to kill off a process in which the media is destabilising Lyon and demoralising the club. Its an unpleasant task, but one that has to be approached bravely. And GW did that, as did) in GTs early days
It is only a band aid solution, of course
If things don't start to look up on match days, it'll all come back in a few weeks, or next week if we somehow manage to lose to the Dees
In the absence of any marked upswing before round 22, those of you who think that lyon will get to see out the rest of his contract are dreaming!!
BTW, I am fascinated to see how some journos are using all of this to get some retribution against Walls
It would seem that, while the best revenge is living well, the most enjoyable form of revenge is schadenfreude!!

serioulsy guys calm down , its funny how some people on here take things so seriously ,
was there not a thread on her the other day complaining the GW hadnt come out and made a coment now he has people are saying he should make comments ??
now i wasnt a supporter of the GW ticket when it first came around as i felt it was using the face of Burkie to guilt the members into accepting it (but thats done with now its the past so no point dwelling)
but slamming GW for putting his support behind the coach at this stage is what we need to have , the media would have a feild day if he came out and said "hes on thin ice he better win some games or else hes out on his ass" ...... of course GW wants RL to be the coach for the next 10 years every club wants the coach to lead their club for the next decade no club likes the attention from sacking its coach ... does that mean RL is safe for 10 year hell no he knows the club know the whole world knows his job is on the line if we dont show signs of improvment
seriously some time i think we create more drama then needed over the little things at this club
