Footy Classified/On The Couch

Post: # 575157Post Langi »

Anyone know if Ross Lyon or anyone representing St.kilda is on anyone of these shows ??

I hope so as we need the heat turned up on us very severely this week in a very public forum, I want our players and coaching staff absolutely smashed in the press this week for the crap we have dished up so far, and It friggin hurts to say this believe me.

Agree Langi the more heat the better...are getting set to watch On the Couch but no idea if someone from the club is involved.

This what is in store for FC!

http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/enews/nine ... 60508.html
Tonight on Footy Classified the footy managers get to have their say when they come up against Craig Hutchison, Caroline Wilson and Damian Barrett in Beat the Press. Footy managers Geoff Walsh (Collingwood), Chris Connolly ( Melbourne) and James Fantasia (Western Bulldogs) thrash it out tonight at 10.35pm on Nine.
In a forthright debate, footy mangers tackle the press insisting they are muckrackers and becoming bigger than the stars they write about.
The panel of Garry Lyon, Hutchison, Wilson and Glenn Archer also discuss the situation that St Kilda finds itself in. Does the panel think the Saints are as “softâ€

Ross was "On the Couch" a few weeks ago, from memory, so I wouldn't expect him to be back again so soon.

About the saints they said
RL's post match comments It was pre meditated, also said it was the worst performance since Blight
no desensive pressure - No defensive midfielders
They said We were regarded as one of the tougher sides previously
It was written in the paper thatRoss has turned them to stone and it appears he has.

they said under GT 2004 - 2006

2nd in contested posessions
3rd in hard ball gets
3rd in tackles

Under RL 2007 - 2008

9th in contested posessions
12th in hard ball gets
7th in tackles

So why have they gone soft the last two years ??

We are not soft, but who the hell wants to give their all if their boss is a moron with no personality?

Disillusionment says the players want Ross to go bye bye.

I am pleased to see Wallsy is finally being called out for the fraud he is.

Good work Mike.

Yet again...simplistic stats tell the story...or do they?

Do you think Ross Lyon would give his left nut to have:

A Thompson
F Peckett
S Powell
A Hamill
EVEN N Burke for a period?

Some fair "hard nuts" in that list huh? whats left today???????????????

F@rk me dont grab snippets off muppets on a TV show that in a segment told us nothing and treat it as gospel...

Those stats are DAMNING!!!

It has been proven that teams that are successful lead or are in top echelon of AFL teams - Champion Data stats are based on contested ball...

Really shows why we are on the slide...

and by the way, Tackling and contested ball have alot to do with desire and passion in contrast to skills - Richmond are doing well in this area this year even though their team isn't that good...

its a mental and motivation thing, little to do with skills (getting contested ball)

No need to shoot the messenger pal, just telling what was said for those that were wondering
stats are stats , like em or not,
on an interesting note its a common theme on here that our midfield was / is too slow and we need pace injected blah blah blah
Not one of the tough nuts you mentioned had much pace at all , were all well past their best years in 2005 - 2006 , thats why they retired !!
apart from Hamill who was injured a majority of that time (but I guess thats just more stats that you think are crap ...

frankie pecket wasn't a hard nut, he was a gutsy player who took his knocks, but he was never a great tackler.

as for thompson, he was racking up 30s in the seconds and ross was playing him on the bench, as a tagger or int he back pocket.

Ball is every bit the player Burke was, maybe better.

Montagna was a seconds player for much of his time till flowering in 06 then again 07 before going backwards in 08.

Dal Santo is a hard player, but again going backward 07/08.

gram was starting to dominate in 06 and 07 but is clearly playing injured in 08, what kind of coach would risk the long term future of a player, plyaing gram and riewoldt injured

Youve just demonstrated (and thank you) how little football you understanf by placing Gram in a thread about HARD BALL GETS.

Your possibly the WORST poster on football Ive seen.

Seriously how you do NOT get that a MATURE BODIED PECKETT is going to contribute to winning contested posession then you cant be helped.

Dal Santo/Montagna had 1 tackle between them on the weekend.....still "tough nuts".....

what you gonna get if you sack all the players that USED to play tough and now don't

a bunch of 3rd round picks who under the guidance of Ross Lyon will be ruined as well?

you just can't deal with the facts that Ross Lyon is leaching on the talent of this side and giving nothing of any use back.

the players have no confidence, there is no discernible strategy and you bloody minded hatred of all things in the past forces you to mindlessly support Ross to the detriment of the club.

I hope you enjoy the rubbish we have been served for teh past 18 months, because I can tell you that unless Ross Lyon and the club can turn around the on field form, member wont sign, merchandise wont be sold and sponsors won't sign up.

Of course he'd love to have Hamill.

Otherwise, I agree that he'd love to have them. With vets like that you can rely on them to get the best out of themselves.

Which would be a wholly different problem. Other than Hamill, the others all made the right decision re: retirement.

FC are footy's equivalent of ambulance chasers. Those contested possession stats are totally raw and completely misleading. It ignores that the rate of contested ball varies from team-to-team, game-to-game, year-to-year. We haven't been a dominant contested ball team since at least 2005, and even then we were down on 04. 06 and 07 we were pretty much break even and now we're getting beaten in contested ball, bady and regularly.

Its all a conspiracy by GT

He deliberately made sure hamill was injured

He nipped a likely comeback by burkey in the bud by encouraging him to run for the board

He hypnotised the post-sept 2006 regime to dispense with the services of powell, thompson and peckett, amd also not to bother taking on the afl when it crucified baker

He hypnotised lyon to prefer taggers like attard, dempster and co to hard players like armo and gwilt

Most of all, he is now exerting a hidden and evil influence over the media (who, of course, adore him) to focus on irrelevant stats like contested ball and tackles and even points for and against rather than the critical issues of hitouts to advantage and bevos inexcusable failure to pick up any bronlow medalists with picks 47 and 62 in 55 bc!!!

Bwahahahaha!!

Ross is gone, move on

Teflon, that's bang out of order.

I thought the post by supersaints was on topic given that we're talking about the Footy Classified show and what they have in relation to the Saints.

I think your opinion on why we have dropped so dramatically over the past two years in the "toughness" categories would be more interesting rather than misplaced anger at a poster for informing us about the content of a show.
