Well the Hawks took Elstone at #20, Ladson at #16. WCE took Sampi at #6, and Melbourne destroyed their club with 3 picks in first 26. We took a club captain at #2 and 4 others who are still in our best 15 players out of 6 picks. It could have been a fair bit worse. As for some other stuff on this thread: yes, development has been shocking for many years, a combination of resources and a control freak. Bevo had a huge say in Brooks, Watts, McGough etc. No, coaches have not interfered with recruiting since Alves. Alves personally picked Walton and Frost for example.
