YOUR OVERRATED AFL PLAYER CHOICES
I’m sure we all have players we believe are overrated to their reputations they have been given by commentators , journos etc not saying they aren’t good players but maybe not to the standard they’ve been built up to. Or you may think their a complete dud. Would be interesting to see your choices and WHY. I’ll start with my first 3 off the top of my head
Andrew Mcleod - Has the ability to do exciting things and has been a good player over the years but I believe he’s been very patchy and inconsistent and not to the superstar pedestal he’s been put on
Matthew Lloyd – Sorry but this guy irritates me he was going to be the next Dunstall , Lockett powerhouse full forward and I’m still trying to work out the thing with the grass to calculate the wind drift of a 3 pound football and he still misses most of the time.
Anthony Rocca - The only player I know who can average around 3 marks and half a dozen kicks per game but can bluff everyone and redeem himself to superstar status with one or two 60 metre bomb goals. The experts always say before the game that hes the most important player and "IF" he plays to his potential . Then I hear about all the one percenters he does to cover his arse but im sorry I can't see them all. I believe people have been waiting for him to become something that’s never going to happen.
I know we wont all agree its just our own opinions would be curious to hear others.

I'm amazed you have McLeod up there, I actually have him as underrated, I believe he is not far behind the likes of Hird, Riccutio etc.

agreed armoo, mccloud has been a champion. In fact he and goodwin are both underated.
I think mooney is overated. I actually think buddy is a little overated as well. He is currently being helped by getting lots of good ball from his midfielders. Very much a downhill skier.

Well and truely Mooney, he is slightly above a average player ability.
After last night Waite I still can't understad how he got a big V guernsey he is not even close to being the best Vic defender on Carlton's list let alone among the best in the state and he proved it last night even the commentators were saying he was struggling.
And just about every player to play for Collingwood seems overated.

I cant see how someone that already has superstar status can be underrated but i just think that yes he has superstar skills when he gets the ball but doesnt get enough of it to be too damaging over four quarters week in week out and yes i agree im more concerned about the damage Simon Goodwin could do to us with 30 damaging posessions over 4 quarters than someone whos capable of producing a couple of brilliant passages of play.Armoooo wrote:I'm amazed you have McLeod up there, I actually have him as underrated, I believe he is not far behind the likes of Hird, Riccutio etc.

before he got injured he was showing peak form.gooner wrote:Maxy Hudgton constantly gets big wraps without really showing any form.
Constantly playing taller than you really are, playing from behind and spoiling without giving away frees, keeping so called gun forwards to zero goals.
I mean, come on Max show some form!
had 3 of the biggest forwards in 3 weeks they didnt kick any got dragged etc ,

Unfortunately due the circumstances and confidence all our star players are overrated at the moment but we know their true form is very different and theyll bounce back again im just counting players generally over their career how ever long that may be or was.gooner wrote:Maxy Hudgton constantly gets big wraps without really showing any form.

The brilliant Nicky Winmar may have had other things on his mind but McLeod ripped him to shreds in that Grand Final.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Matthew Lloyd picks grass because unlike his nose it can't retaliate.
He is so dumb that he has yet to work out that when the Telstra Dome roof is closed, there is no wind.

I thought every game counts and if they dont why are we so concerned about whos not performing well for us at this time of the season they may as well all rest themselves till it REALLY counts and as for singling out a game to make comparisons on players you obviously werent around following throughout Winmars whole career and what he was able to do week in week out . Can Mcleod go to full forward and kick 6 goals if needed up to 60 metres out ,take spectacular high marks consistently , be reliable to gather high effective disposals week in week out over the whole of his career and pinpoint a team mate at any distance by foot fluently off EITHER foot? Mcleod is a very good player but very one sided catch him out on his left and hes in trouble he wont even attempt to kick left foot.Get some old st kilda video tapes out because i think once players are gone we forget how good they really were as to players currently playing now.ace wrote:The brilliant Nicky Winmar may have other things on his mind but McLeod ripped him to shreds in that Grand Final.

Like a few before me it is hard to go past tarrant doesnt look happy/settled at the dockers.
Also i may get shot down for this but buddy franklin in a way. He deserves most of the accolades he recieves but his kicking lest him down and i wouldnt be playing him up to be one of the top players of the comp when he is only young and obviously shaky at sometimes.
Also ....
* the Carr brothers
* Daniel Kerr
* Adam Goodes
* Matthew Lloyd
* Josh Fraser.
