My other great love was the now sadly deceased North Sydney Bears rugby league team (I grew up in that part of sydney but I had a family connection to st kilda).
I have also been a passionate supporter of the Socceroos for more than 40 years.
Why do I always find myself supporting underdogs?
All most a man after my own heart, yep, Bulldogs for me...

Harvey's mates stood listening to those words, perhaps planning to keep the AFL's longest career lingering a while yet. Then turned into softcocks and blew it YET again.
saints are far and above any other team for me. and always will be.
but my the only other team in the AFL i remotely like is the dogs. for reasons others have given.
and also my family is half saints/half dogs so have watched them play, gone to games and had memberships for both most of my life.
so naturally have a touch of a soft spot for them.
and i love lindsay gilbee
i will miss you bally. but i guess you just didn't want to be here.
heres hoping you are regretting that choice on that last day in september 2010 - go saints.
I have a bit of a soft spot for the Doggies and the Shinboners where they are below us on the ladder and we ain't playing them of course.
Most hated teams are the Eagles, Adelaide and Carlton (hard to single one out of that disgusting bunch)
Most hated journsey's are Fremantle and Port Adelaide
Carlton are mine - purely for family reasons. As I've said a million times, wasn't alive for the 1980's annual beltings and the cheating, etc never bothered me because I NEVER cared about off-field stuff. That all changed in 2006. 2006 made me start giving a s*** about off field stuff big time.
My second favourite after Carlton is always the flavour of the month. It used to be the bulldogs but now I would say it is hawthorn. Just the team that currently comes out and plays great footy or a single player who comes out and tears the competition apart.
I've always had second favourites (usually around finals time when you needed someone to follow) but it changes year to year.
Occasionally it's been a top team that's playing awesome footy that just makes you proud of the game. Usually its a team that's been down who's playing spirited football on the way up.
I can't help it -- I don't really choose who it's going to be that kindles my interest -- and this year it's -- gulp -- ........ carlton.
Sorry for my shame.
On the whole I'm more interested in a few opposition players than opposition clubs.
My clear No2, if ever they win a game, is the Washington Redskins.
Always have a soft spot for the Bulldogs - except when Wallace was coaching and they became biting kicking mongrels - Romero, Libber etc.
And always admired Hawthorn in the eighties - a genuinely great team - and of course Jeansy was coach.
Then there is a group of teams that I find hard to really hate.
Richmond,
Brisbane,
Nth, and
Melbourne.
Then a group of teams I just HATE !
Collingwood,
Port
Geel
WCE
Adelaide
Essendon and
Freo
And then two teams that I absolutely and totally despise.
The Sydney PARASITES - the AFL's bastard love child
and finally
Carlton - the SCUM club of the competition.
A collection of liars, cheats, corporate criminals, low-life human excremental scum.
No amount of suffering for them would ever be enough.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
