definte outs Roo Goose Max X
and unavilable: King
with those in the possable mix there appears heaps of possible line-ups
which will make it very interesting now the picture hs become clearer
We look like having a very full on thred here for the next 11 days! I'll give it a go soon at a side , but at present my magnetic board looks like cryptic x-word
I'm taking the optimistic line with the big one ...no Roo
At least we are going to break from our painful pridictbility which has really handicpped us. (in fct I recon its the major reason for Roo being such a target to maim....tunnelling body slamming etc, but thats an issue for another post) and have a couple of games to develoup some effective go to / scoring alternatives in his absence
selection considerations needed IMHO:
Pies probable line-up/ style of play
Raph out of defence(IMHO)
G????? ($64Q)
Kozi to ruck or not? CHF FF CHB??
the Casey FORM of possables
time to put the thinking cap on
bet we dont hve too many identical line-ups over the journey!
Good Luck selectors!

You do realise that the Casey game is on a Sunday...and the Pies game is on Friday?????
= 5 Day break
I have and hence my comment.
Consequently I would be most surprised if the Saints gave anyone that they may want to play in the Pies match a FULL workout for Casey.
They will either not play them...or they will say only play half a game.
Who will come in most likely will not be affected by next weeks Casey game.

Re: Team vs Collingwood
Ok, given that Goose is gone, I'm assuming Bakes is ok and King out.......
IN: Geary, Hudghton, Gwilt
OUT: Roo, X, Goose
Match-ups
Baker on Didak; Geary on Davis (and to run off him); Fisher on Medhurst (and to run off him); Hudghton to Cloke; Gwilt on Rocca.
In the midfield, Dempster on Pendlebury.
BJ as loose man; also rotate through CHF, Raph similarly and also provides cover in defence. Fisher/Gwilt/Hudghton - two of these on Cloke/Rocca.
Geary and Gram to provide running rebound from defence - Gram to run through midfield/wing at stages too.

It would seem to me that the clubs approach on hammy's is very cautious at present (and given our recent history that is not suprising) ...and that players seem to get an extra week than what may be the bare minimum,,,,,,alll except for Banger that is!!!!

Then Blake or Leigh Fisher in as defenders. Pies have two talls in Cloke - who I expect Sam Fisher to take in the absence of Max, and Rocca - Gwilt would match up well on him - I remember him taking Barry Hall and Fev last year and doing an ok job on them.saintly wrote:hudgeton won't be back by then

Quick query - is Geary Injured? Can't see him in Casey Game report.
Matty Ferguson could be in for a show, after being swung forward in the Casey v Devils game, would like to see the Big Mc given a run v Taylor, have Gardiner 1st ruck, and perhaps bring Blake back in to follow Josh Fraser round the ground.
This would free up Gardiner to drop in front of Rocca in defense, or run forward to the 50m arc as a tall option back in the corridor.
Kosi would be free then to play mainly up forward.
??

The Pies game does provide an opportunity to blood McEvoy in the ruck as Fraser and Woods are not "physical" ruckmen...or the comptitions best.
The other question is the GTrain....would the younger Allen be worth a look now after promising signs...and Allen is more mobile than GTrain.
For the Pies game it may be opportune to bring both in...but if only one I would go for Allen.
In: Allen, McEvoy Gwilt (or Geary)
Out: Roo Goose X
I have not really seen enough of Casey this year to really say who is the better option out of Gwilt or Ferg...but either could come in. Gwilt did do ok last year though when called upon...even though he seemed to go "missing" after that.
The pies may have 4small/ mediums in their forward line if no Rocca...and so ence Geary would be in the mix too.

Well it seems that King and Gardner will ruck against the Pies, leaves Kosi forward with the Train and Chuck Gardner.
So Ins: King, Gwilt, Geary.
Outs: Goose, Rooey and X.
Still - maybe a chance Allen could come in somehow.

Lets see how he goes this week. If he kicks one and doesnt get much of the ball do you really think he should replace G. Surely he must outperform G in the lower grade to even be considered as a replacement for G.saintsRrising wrote:Allen for GTrain.yipper wrote:Well it seems that King and Gardner will ruck against the Pies, leaves Kosi forward with the Train and Chuck Gardner.

however, there will onlhy be a 5 day break between casey and the collingwood game. therefore you would assume that allen if he were to play against collingwood. would only get a half a game. difficult to compare then.plugger66 wrote:Lets see how he goes this week. I think he might play a bit more as forwards dont run as much as on ballers but other like Geary may only play a half. The only problem with all of this is Geary and Allen will not have played 21 days I think so they will need to play a fair bit to get some touch.saintly wrote:however, there will onlhy be a 5 day break between casey and the collingwood game. therefore you would assume that allen if he were to play against collingwood. would only get a half a game. difficult to compare then.plugger66 wrote:Lets see how he goes this week. Anyway...if King is an in......that will bea huge plus for us.
I would quite fancy KingGardi vs FraserWood as giving us an edge.

Absolutely. If our midfield can't win the footy here, then we are in strife.saintsRrising wrote:Anyway...if King is an in......that will bea huge plus for us.

I really tinhk that against Wood/Fraser we don't need both King and MG. Better to have more mid/smaller defending options - Kosi should be ok against either of those two.
On the other hand I do see an argument for taking advantage of their ruck weakness and smashin them in that department. Luckily we have a selection committee to make those calls!
