Don't confuse on-field success with the lack of off field success.
This bloke has turned Fremantle around from a basket case off the field to a very powerful club.
He was also disgracefully sacked from Melbourne by "Diamond" Joe.
He is widely regarded as one of the best football administrators going around.

What do you mean - do you mean organising the factional influences? They already had sponsorship that St Kilda could only dream of and I thought their Membership was very healthy considering the Eagles were already established and successsful. I heard him say on radio over here that there were many things in place that he was amazed by - one specific that I remember was how seamless and well organised their travelling arrangements were.Life Long Saint wrote:Don't confuse on-field success with the lack of off field success.

That means that he found out he was sacked by reading a headline in the paper out the front of a newsagent on his morning jog.Mr Magic wrote:What does that mean?Life Long Saint wrote: He was also disgracefully sacked from Melbourne by "Diamond" Joe.
If the rumours were correct he was 'guilty' of a similar thing that saw BW leave us.
Does that mean BW was 'disgracefully sacked' by Rod Butters?
I have no idea about the rumours that you are referring to. Feel free to elaborate.

<<<He is widely regarded as one of the best football administrators going around.
did great things at richmond!
hasn't been at Harvard most of the time lately?
>>>He was also disgracefully sacked from Melbourne by "Diamond" Joe.
The raids follow revelations of payments made to Lyon and allegedly hidden from the Tax Office and the AFL from 1995 to 1998. Melbourne made the payments when it breached the AFL salary cap over that four-year period and were revealed during the presidency of Joseph Gutnick.
While the football club paid a $400,000 fine to the Tax Office for more than $1 million of undisclosed payments, several former footballers, including Lyon, have remained under investigation. A cash payment of $30,000 to Lyon resulted in the Demons being fined $55,000 by the Tax Office.
On top of the tax fine, the AFL fined the Demons $350,000 for salary cap breaches and banned the club from recruiting in the 1999 national player draft - a sequence of events that culminated in the departure of former chief executive Cameron Schwab.

I don't necessarily believe the rumour at the start of this thread. To start another rumour, AF could just as easily have been meeting with the consortium to sort out a deal for Riewoldt to finish his career there in exchange for us getting some of their priority picks or whatever (this deal is inevitable IMO: if we try to fight it, the AFL big wigs - most of whom believe that we were extremely lucky in the first place to get Riewoldt over the Lions - will simply force our hand).
If the rumour is true, it just goes to illustrate once again that AF is about as loyal and trustworthy as Wayne Carey.
If he goes, I hope he takes with him the idiotic attempt to copy the Swans which he has imposed on our club.

My take is that Archie did a reasonable job in his 1st few years (made mistakes, but we all do). It is in the last 12-18 months that he has really excelled in his job and that would mean that he would be a big loss if he gets poached by the Gold Coast.
This is all purely speculation and rumour at this stage. Lets hope that Archie stays with the saints to finish the job that he started !!
