yeah the way my uncle used to talk about him was more about how he was as a man then how he was as a footballer ( i think he knew him in the 60's thats why he liked him so much )

Let's not beat about the bush.
Bongo was a worse kick than Jayson Daniels.
I remember him missing a set shot from the goal square at the Nepean Hwy end.
But his heart was in the right place.
It's taken me a long time,
but I've finally forgiven him for leading us to Arctic Park.
RIP.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
Like your lists Jill.
I was also a big fan of Lawrence.
But you've got to fit Bourkie in on the most loyal list.
His re-signing along with Harves and Loewe marked the turning point of the SOS campaign and saved our club.
Always played a team game and always gave his all.

I've always thought about that. Great players in every era we can turn it on some weeks unlike some teams that never can, but we only have 1 premiership. As much as i hate to say it i think the dogs might be adding to their premiership tally before us at this stage.

The blokes who didnt perhaps have natural skills or flair (tho many of this list did) but would never ever hesitate if it was their "turn to go"
(In no particular order..limited to blokes Ive seen play)
Trevor Barker
Max Hudghton
Nathan Burke
Paul Callery
Nick Riewoldt
Luke Ball
Danny Frawley
Nicky Winmar
Carl Ditterich
Robert Harvey
Nice list! But surely you can't leave out Joffa Cunningham!! He was "gutsy" to the point of total stupidity. I could never believe how he put his life on the line week in week out. I'd rate him second after Barks.
Ask some old blokes who have seen several decade of players. My father who is 85 has stated Eric Guy was the toughest saint of all. Hard as nails, straight at the ball and feared nobody. Leigh Matthews was supposed to be one of the toughest in our time and Dad says Lethal Leigh was a cream puff compared to Eric Guy.
