Eel Elphingstone

With all the doom and gloom posts, I thought I'd offer up Robert Elphingstone.

Saw the Eel yesterday in his new guise as the Trainer for the Beverley Hills Under 15s. He still looks like he could get a game at centre half back, although maybe the grey hair might give him away!!

His son looked like a goer also.

He was one of our shining lights in a very lean period for the club. Quite underrrated was the Eel, courageous and gutsy. Maybe some of the current players need to be given video footage of how this guy went about things on game day.

I played in the Seaford U14's with him and he was by no means one of the best players in that team

but he was the only one who went on and not only that became an excellent defender in a team that was mostly under the pump throughout his whole career

bumped into him a couple of years ago and he was as charming as ever, had a bit of a limp at the time, hope the leg is all good now

The Eel was GT's runner for awhile but he'd been in such a good paddock
he mostly sat on the bench,in his flouro green outfit..spoke to the coach and shuffled the names on the board,he used to have a kick in the warm up before the game at the dome as well..........

It was when we had the runner that ended up at North,can't remember his name though......

Eel was my favourite player - no surprises working that out from my tag . Very underated - Strong mark, could run. Got slowed down some later by the leg injuries - played the later years with a permanent heavy bandage round his thigh. In a stronger side would have played forward alot more, but we needed him in defence.

Kent Hannam was the North runner under Pagan, came to St Kilda under Blight and Thomas, then went back to North under Laidley. Saw him on the tv coverage last week doing the bench board match ups.

He also coaches Fitzroy Doncaster in the Premier League Cricket I believe.
