Rix was absolutely shocking tonight

Post: # 555257Post Moccha »

Why did they play this dud?

McEvoy would have been so much better. At least he can kick and mark. I just don't get it. Absolutely got smashed out of the middle. Blake is 6 inches shorter than him yet he's a better ruckman.

Rix offered absolutely nothing in the ruck contests and even less around the ground. Surely we'd have been better off getting a senior game into McEvoy. Heck, we'd have been better off giving Jack Steven a chance in the ruck.

All 3 of our "rucks" tonight were really bad. So many contests they didn't make or attempted to make little effort. How badly we miss King & Gardiner.

All that talk of McEvoy not being ready....no doubt accurate - but would he have done any worse than we got tonight? Doubtful.

Lade & Brogan are the meanest ruck combo in the AFL. They would have killed McEvoy simply because he aint ready for afl....... YET !!

Exactly...that knee in the ribs that Kosi got would have chopped McEvoy in half

Thought Rixy was at least serviceable tonight. He had a crack.

Brogan and Lade certainly didn't tear us apart like they have in the past. There are bigger problems in this side than Michael Rix.

I've been patient with Rix but I think you're being very, very kind with that critique.

McEvoy wouldn't have made much of a difference. And probably would have come out of the game physically and mentally destroyed...lol.

Rix was fair dinkum shithouse. Has no brains, doesn't run to any contests. At least Blake has a crack. We were one man down with this guy in the team. A dud of the highest order. Nick Stone would have taken Rix to the cleaners tonight.

Sav, I'm not saying Rix was in our best, but what did you expect from him tonight? He provided a contest, threw his body around a bit, and did some ok things around the ground.

What was it that made him so terrible?

The fact that he didn't make much of a contest, didn't really throw his body around and did nothing around the ground.

Is 2 handballs racking up the stats?

Had we had King and Gardiner we wouldn't have been smashed in the middle.
And might probably have won the game.

But tonight proves that Rix will be delisted in October.
Or perhaps we can trade him to Carlton :D

I expected him to make every contest - he didn't make a number of them, Lade was uncontested. Easy takeaway. That's just plain s*** & lazy.

No one said he was racking up the stats, but what exactly do you expect from him?

Rix is not in our best 22. King, Gardiner, Kosi and even Blake are all used in the ruck before him. He is never, ever going to set a game alight, but he can provide a contest, which is what he did.

Put it this way- Rix is not the reason we lost tonight. Vent your anger at a worthy target. You've got plenty to choose from with tonight's effort.

Like I said, I just expected him to make every contest myself, not sure if anyone was expecting him to rack up 30 possessions or something :) Rix is not THE reason we lost....but he sure didn't help our cause.

I expect nothing of Rix and he lived up to expectation.

I agree though, his inability to influence the match wasn't a factor. It was the inability of 6-10 of his team mates to influence the match that saw us lose.

He's just a dumb footballer. he let his man continually run free. He doesn't drop back into defence to help his defence, he doesn't run forward to help his forwards. I can't remember one hitout out of the centre to the midfielders advantage. That is where the game is set up.
