theres a few in our team that should be made to earn their stripes, at casey and armitage would be a breathe of fresh air. time for ross to take the hard line and drop underperforming stars.bigcarl wrote:needs a few more weeks at casey imo. make him earn his stripesi_luv_nick_riewoldt wrote:armoooo could be in the mix for selection

I thought you were talking about armooo, the poster, not "armo" the player. yes he's in line for selection.fonz_#15 wrote:theres a few in our team that should be made to earn their stripes, at casey and armitage would be a breathe of fresh air. time for ross to take the hard line and drop underperforming stars.bigcarl wrote:needs a few more weeks at casey imo. make him earn his stripesi_luv_nick_riewoldt wrote:armoooo could be in the mix for selection

But the above opinions are right IMO. It's time to give the youngsters the opportunity to impress and try to keep their spot. I honestly believe that it's up to some of the bigger names to try get back in the squad from playing themselves into form and getting that hunger back into them!
Thats Mr. Smartarse to you
Re: Gehrig & Fiora Out *unconfirmed*
I think it would be a big Mistake to drop g at the dome against Essendon,Fiora has been bad so thats fair,is Gardiner back?Beno88 wrote:A very reliable source has informed me that Fraser Gehrig and Aaron Fiora have both been omitted from the side for the Essendon game.
And Luke Ball will play forward.
Not sure who the ins are or if there's any other outs.
I guess we'll have to wait til 5.30 to see if that's correct but as I said, the source is very reliable.

Needs some serious gametime to see if he can cut it. Running around for the Scorps isn't going to prove much. Seeing that they did an article on the Saints homepage points to his selection this week
Another opportunity awaits!

No ... Gehrig's direct opponent was BOG, and he's a fullback. In terms of stats, (and the two cheap goals gehrig got) he wasn't the worst, but in the context of the game he was the worst.bigcarl wrote:i could name half a dozen others who were equally unimpressive. fiora was one of them. just don't throw the baby out with the bathwater is what i'm saying.fugazi wrote:So what if Fraser gets the best full back when they become the BOG for their team?
He was a liability on the field, rather then an asset. We did better when he was on the bench, and his man (scarlett) was held accountable for his possessions.
personally the changes I would like to see made are (depending on injury)
In: schneider, armo, M.Gardiner (charlie gardiner otherwise)
Out: G, fiora, blake

no doubt he put in a shocker but it's only one week.Saintschampions08 wrote:He was a liability on the field, rather then an asset. We did better when he was on the bench, and his man (scarlett) was held accountable for his possessions.
i think a bigger problem with the forward line is our obsession with kicking it to riewoldt when he has three or four guys on him.
however the mail regarding fraser is probably correct and he will miss this week (and we'll win). i hope he doesn't pull the pin because we'll need him before the season is out.

sorry mate, but thats flat out incorrectSaintschampions08 wrote:He was a liability on the field, rather then an asset. We did better when he was on the bench, and his man (scarlett) was held accountable for his possessions.
Scarlett did the exact same thing to Kosi that he was doing to Gehrig, and it had the exact same result
big mistake if they drop G, i would have thought it would be easier to play with a decent gameplan, then blame players when our current crap one doesn't work

My major problem with Gehrig is his lack of intensity and effort.bigcarl wrote:no doubt he put in a shocker but it's only one week.Saintschampions08 wrote:He was a liability on the field, rather then an asset. Unless he gets a pinpoint kick, within a meter of where he is standing, he won't get the ball.
He doesn't warrant being in the team, kicking 1 and 2 goals against good opponents (Which are generally always cheap goals; ie: a free kick, or late in the game when its already won / lost) - and then kicking 4 or 5 against Carlton.
Unless he can kick 3 - 4 on average, he's not doing us worthwhile. At worst, it's better for the team having a hopeless youngster in their, at worst he'll provide a contest, at best, he could be a talent.
I don't see the idea of having a guy who:
doesn't run,
doesn't tackle,
doesn't take a contested mark,
doesn't kick many goals,
doesn't hold his opponent
in the team, its causing us more problems then solving.

Those games in the last few years where he has done all of the above have been spectacular. If he's not interested in doing any of the above he's a liability.
Pity, i love the G-train and his sometimes explosive unpredictability.
A less top heavy forwardline could free up some room for more goals...
hey bono, both schneider and gardiner (m) both didn't come up?Bono wrote:I will confirm it for you all - Gehrig, Fiora both out.

I reckon that the selectors have gotten it just about right. Fiora was hopeless last week and Gehrig was a non-contributor. Although Armo and CG have their limitations, they deserve a go.Bono wrote:I will confirm it for you all - Gehrig, Fiora both out.

I reckon Gwilt should be considered in the near future. If he can be encouraged to use his body a bit, he could given us a harder edge.

Is that just hope on Gwilt or have you actually seen some form at Casey this year to warrnt him pushing for senior selection?

you wouldn't consider gilbert forward before c gardiner? he did kick a couple of nice goals last week.saintsRrising wrote:Well I hope that they are working towards this structure...Bono wrote:I will confirm it for you all - Gehrig, Fiora both out.

I fully outlined how I would play both in my OP on how I would structure the teambigcarl wrote:

http://www.saintsational.com/forum/view ... hp?t=41751
However in brief Gilbert I would play as a swingman..ir back and front.
Charlie I would play as a mini-Roo role running from HF to HB..effectively as a link man and extra mid.
