Carlton anyone? I think it is more a reflexion on our supporters and a boring game plan.Moccha wrote:Unfortunately it's a reflection of the lack of on field success. The sooner they start winning and making the finals the better. I think a few supporters are pissed off with the broken promises

I don't understand
Did anyone else receive a postcard/letter in the mail with their name printed on it several times asking to join and help break the club membership record.. my point being that I am already a member and the club wouldn't have my details if I weren't. Am I missing something?

I think this card should have only been sent to past members who haven't rejoined this year. My daughter got one as she hasn't paid her m'ship this year. So the club has her details but she isn't a member -does that make sense. Sounds like yours was sent in error

Unless we obliterate Essendon tomorrow night 31,000 is as good as it will get I think
Every Club has them, but looks like we have 3-4000 Members who only were gonna re-sign if we were winning by 10 goals every week
We got all excited early, but looks like that DVD (which i never recieved anyway) just got the same people renewing earlier, rather than attracting new members.

Maybe we need to 'cheat' like some of the other clubs to get our membership tally up?
We could buy memberships with some of our sponsorship money. The money would still all come to teh Club but our membership tally would be higher whilst our Sponsorship money would be lower.
No reral fiscal difference, just make us all feel better about teh number of members we have.

wow you're confident!iwantmeseats wrote:Just gotta win some games and play something resembling attacking footy and we will get very close to 35K. Would want to hurry up though.
If we win the next 5 games by an average of 10 goals we MAY make 35,000 members.....ie. we would be a premiership fancy if that happend!

Whatever way you look at it it is very disappointing this year. It looks like it will be worse than last year and we have a dream run early on where games were played and with results going our way. Nearly every other side has record membership this year so very disappointing.
My question is why has this happened.

I thought the new board, new players, DVD/scarf etc could only be good things, plus the NAB cup win gave us good TV exposure in the important membership driving period. Also, we did win our first 2 games (albiet not too convincingly!).
Perhaps some of those unaligned people who decided to take up a team this year went more for other sides - The Judd factor at Carlton, Hawks resurgence, Geelong's flag etc....
OR.....perhaps the biggest downer that we can't erase until September is our lack of finals action last year, and the 04/05 bandwagon saying "we've had enough for now", and sitting in the wings until our next finals campaign.
Methinks it's the latter......what are your thoughts plugger??

guys, quite seriously, its the way we play, the theatre goers/fair weather supporters hate that garb, and wont pay money to see it.
Im not a huge fan of how our gameplan has changed either, but Im hardcore like all you guys. I think it will get better by the way, as the year goes on myself.
The average joe though dosent understand why its happening, and just wont fork out for that stuff.

Have we overtaken North Melbourne yet in memberships? are we likely to?
Could there be a chance saints be sent packing to relocate if we can't get more members than North.
Western Sydney. is this to be a relocated team or a new franchise from scratch. Would westaway sellout and take Saints to Western Sydney?

Magpies break membership record
heard roos are at 34,000- I;m guessing abotu 4,000 are false memberships from people 'supporting the roos' to keep them in melbourne.
April 25, 2008 Collingwood have announced they have broken the membership record for any Victorian AFL club.
The Magpies passed the 41,256 mark just before the Anzac Day game, which was the figure they set four years ago.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire announced the result during the pre-game lunch, and also congratulated the Bombers, who have also broken their own membership record and are closing in on 40,000.
