Anything that is general is fine - if you use the red, black and white colours.
So ... I've seen things that just say words like "Awesome" (in red black and white), to more general Saints things (eg 'Let's go Sainters', "We're marching in", "Go Saints Go", etc).
My suggestion to you is that you try to identify what you most like about watching the footy. I can remember someone in the 1970s having a sign that just said "Specky!". I loved it. Makes me think of Trevor Barker.
But you might like watching goals be kicked (And I've seen signs that just say 'Goal'), or you might like watching people chase (a banner for this could be something like "Run Hard Saints").
Maybe you want to just have a word of praise that you can raise when anyone does something spectacular (eg you might just have the word 'Legend' and raise it whenever you felt like).
My suggestion is to think about YOUR favourite things about the team, or a player, or something you feel when you watch the boys play... and incorporate it into your banner.
Another option you might think about is to just start with an interesting arrangement of red, black and white... the colours... and then think over time what you would like to have on it. Then you have a banner/flag which you can use, but you haven't rushed into anything. I've seen lots of patterns of red, white and black that have left me thinking 'gee, that's cool'.
Good luck with it - it's great fun!

Do whatever you want, even if you feel it's overdone... whatever you feel good about. It's your banner. If you want to have a reference to Roo's bus, then do it. You'll be carrying the banner - so do what you like. It's all a part of the process that we've all gone through:
1. St. Kilda is my team, I follow them.
2. I'm barrack for St. Kilda, couldn't even think of going for anyone else.
3. I HAVE to show everyone that I go for St. Kilda - with a passion.
4. I'm a St. Kilda 'tragic'; can't even THINK of anything else on gameday; whenever I see a number, I think of the players who've had that number; I've got to plan my banner; I HAVE to sit near other Saints fans - hearing someone go for the other team kinda spols the vibe for me; etc.
I think you're well on your way to being a 'tragic' - welcome to the club!

haha well i have a made the banner stayed up like 4am but i think it was worth it!!! It looks spectacular it says "all aboard roo's bus" i think that it might give riewoldt a little smile as i help to spread the word to all saints fans!
And yes, markinUSA i and a fully fledged saints fan, my day off was spent listening to music which measuring and cutting out felt letters. I think ive earned the tradgic label!
I've only realised that to me i guess i was making the banner out of enjoyment for the supporters and little kids that come to watch the game to say hey look at me im a saints fan and damn proud of it and willing to hold up a 1msq banner of red black and white goodness!
thanks everyone for your input, it was greatly appreciated. My friend and i should also mention how fond of everton's banner suggestion, it just got pipped at the post im afraid.
great work and hopefully ill see some ss people out and about today!

I'll keep an eye out for it.
But I hope ypour spelling on the banner is better than on your post or it could be a "tradgjetty"
