I wouldnt be suprised if goose is a late withdrawal. i have nothing to base that on, just my opinion. Although if he's in form at casey or not, a team's entitled to play a player whose normally starting 22, thats if they're 100% fit of corse.

We have a very tall team, i would expect maybe Goose will play forward and Riewoldt will roam in midfield

Also notiched M Gardiner was still out, which means that Kosi will have stints in the ruck

Could anyone tell me what number Dempster is wearing? The Saints site isn't functioning very well... Thanks.

im disappointed that Geary is out, and even more disappointed that it seems that ross thinks dempster is an automatic selection;

Most bizzarre team selection since perhaps selecting 3 older slow midfielders against WCE a couple years ago.

So after being killed in the midfield last week we swap two backs for two backs  At best dempster could go into the midfield in a holding role but where does that leave blake and fish?

One of the most defensive teams I have seen in a long time. Kosi will ruck with king.... Just can't see how we will kick enough goals to win this. It's like we are heading out to keep this the scores below 60 points apeice.

BAM! (shhhh) wrote:Very tall team.

Carrying a key defender on the interchange? I thought only the All-Australian team did things like that 8-)

Interesting to see if that's the team that lines up on Saturday. Interesting to see if that means a Gram, Goodard or Gilbert is going to spend time in the midfield.
looking at this team on paper - and considering who could still come in (armitage, birss, gardiner x 2, baker, raph, etc) is reassuring.

it might not be this week and it might not be the week after but mark my words this side will eventually click - and when it does...

this season is a long way from over!!

I dont understand these selections. From what I can see neither Dempster nor Maguire are in form. If we wanted to bring in a defender why not Ferguson, who is in form? Crap selections if you ask me. Weak as water.

If it's close we could be exposed with 3 guys coming back
- Goddard, Goose and Dempster
none of them are fully match fit.

It's either a big risk.
Or a big bluff !

Suspect the latter.
The emergencies may know something we don't.

Goose is not playing. This is a stupid predictable bluff.

The guy is playing 2001 style football.

i think bringing goose in will free up Fisher alot, as otherwise he'd have to play on one of Hawkins or Mooney (neither of which i rate)

Maxy, Goose, and Gilbert should be able to cover them, with Fish as the occasional third man up

I think this is still a very strong team, in fact I wouldn't be disappointed if any of the emergencies came in.

Have the selectors ignored form and instead selected the team they hope to select for that last Saturday in September to play this same opponent.
(Baker to replace L. Fisher and M Gardiner to come in as second ruckman)
Are they trying to see how players match up.

Ifa player is a late withdrawal...I assume but don't know that the AFL would have some rule that they cannot play elsewhere???

If so, Goose missing a week's playing would seem too high a price to to play for any "mindgames".

Jones should be in ahead of Goose..we're as slow as slow-drying cement..too big. Train has done nothing but been whopped by Scarlett in recent times and should have been rested and Charlie in his place.

With Dempster and Maguire in does Blake become the 2nd ruck?

Not too happy about this.

Very slow, tall team and bringing in Goose (who is useless at ground level) and Dempster (who doesn't get the ball) won't improve our contested possessions rate.

Geary and Armo are the two kids who actually look like they are up to AFL level and they're not getting a go. Their age should mean that they are more likely to get games, not to be used as an excuse not to play them.

Charlie Gardiner was probably our best player throughout the pre season, didn't have a big impact in a flood fest against Sydney and hasn't had another chance - even though we are sorely lacking another marking option at half forward and he's dominated at Casey. And since Kosi is going to play in the ruck for a large amount of the game, Gardiner would be even more fitting to the side.

Match ups
Hawkins - Maguire
Mooney - S.Fisher
S.Johnson - Hudghton
Ablett - L.Fisher?
Chapman - Dempster?
Corey - Blake
Bartel - Ball
Stokes - ?
