Team for next week
God I hope M. Gardiner is back...
It's a tough ask because it's not as simple as dropping a few bad performing players... it's a question of which players can win their respective positions... not just negate.
Here's my try:
B L.Fisher, Hudghton, Ferguson
HB Goddard, Kosi, S.Fisher
C Gram, Ball, C. Gardiner
HF Schnieder, Riewoldt, Dal Santo
F Milne, Gehrig, Gilbert
R King, Hayes, Armitage
Int M.Gardiner, Harvey, Montagna, Geary
Emg Raph, X, Fiora
IN
Ferguson, Armitage, C. Gardiner, M. Gardiner
OUT
X, Raph, Blake, Fiora,
Basically I wanted to mix it up a bit.
In the backline, I want players that can spoil as well as provide a bit of run. Goddard and Sam can do this this and Kosi won't outbodied 1 on 1; all 3 of these players can hurt the opposition on the rebound and demand accountability.
Kosi and Roo can swap if need be. Ferguson can mark and has a tank on him... can slot right into Raph's role but hopefully do it better.
Get Gram away from the backline, he can't spoil. Charlie provides a marking target up the ground and generally isn't too bad a field kick... + he's hard working.
At HFF you want players that can kick goals from about 50m out or chip it into a leading forward
AM tired of Gilbert playing as a KPP; awful 1:1 defender. We need to utilise his run and toughness. Have him play as a medium sized forward that can alternate into the midfield
Time to give Armo a run too, much better prospect than Jones. Get some run onto the bench.
Fiora - Not influencing the games enough... does some nice things and will be back but needs get more ball
Raph - Still think he's being unfairly maligned but nonetheless, would like to see Fergs have a go in this role
Blake - Simply has too many defincies in his game. Players run off/around him, defensive work poor, squanders shots at goal, possessions don't hurt the opposition. Would rather Raph in the team
X - Phased out of games far too easily

HF: Dal Santo, Kosi, Gilbert
F: Milne, Gehrig, Schneider

Out: R. Clarke, Fiora, Geary
wasn't structure or talent that let us down on friday night. was more just our complete inability to get the ball. we barely had it after quarter time and when we did it was under pressure.

raph isn't in your team either.skeptic wrote:don't know how u can have Blake in the team over Raph... Raph at least did a few nice things in the 1/4. Blakes match highlight was a missed set shot in the second
i'm not down on the bloke. i actually think he can play, but needs some confidence.
as for blake, well he wasn't great. but let's face it, he had a few mates

Serious Question.
Has Ferg only just come back from injury? What has his exhibited form been?
Unless he has been playing blinders why would he be up for selection next week?
I quite like some of Barks other suggested changes.....but this one seems a bit rushed.
I would also keep Gilbert down back.
With Kosi.....would you line him up on Mooney?
In the 2 Gardiners and Jones.
Out Raph, Blake for your line up......Geary
However is it perhaps time to not play one of Kosi or Gtrain?

Both can win the football, and that's what cost us the game last night.
One problem was that Blake was tagging Cooney, which was fine in itself. However, Eade simply made sure Cooney started at centre bounces - and it meant we had King and Blake standing next to each other.
Hardly the ideal combination to win clearances.
I don't believe M. Gardiner will be fit for next week.
IN: C. Jones, D. Armitage
OUT: R. Clarke, J. Blake
We need the added pace and grunt in the middle.

RE fergs... honestly, I'd just like a set of defenders that can spoil... for mine, it's the single attribute that has kept Raph in the team to date, Ross knows that as many mistakes as he makes, there's not many other players that can put their fist on the damn thing.saintsRrising wrote:Serious Question.

the fact that he failed at this last night is y there was no real upside to his performance
I don't think M. Gardiner will be playing next week either.
Ross said at the post-game interview that he would be guided by
the medical advice, but the question is whether you risk somone
who is coming bak from an injury, or you wait a little while longer till you're 100% sure the player is right.
I imagine that they'll wait. But that is, as I say, just my imagination.

How can Armitage be considered? Form must be taken into account, and his last game was very poor apparently, and he was rubbed out for yesterday.
Ferguson was our best player apparently, so should be first inclusion. Then Eddy again, but he is still a rookie unfortunately. Why they did'nt orimote him with Geary I dont know.

In: M Gardiner, Armitage, Jones.
Out: Blake, Fiora, Geary.
Fiora has played poorly in all bar one of this years games (including NAB)
Blake is hopeless.
Geary out to change things up a bit. Insert some harder stronger bodies, ie Jones.
Note: I hate C Jones, and love Fiora....These to me are big changes.
