max
I'm sorry,
played really well tonight.. sorry I doubted you, expected too much straight back from injury.

Max was brilliant tonight. Bit flat footed in the 3rd but played brilliantly. Fevola would have kicked nothing if it were not for those frees. That was a disgrace, but besides that Max lead all the way down the back, outstanding game.

I wanted to start a thread dedicatde entirely to Max - but you sort of beat me to it.
He played a brilliant game on Hall last week, and another brilliant game on Fevola tonight.
He is a deadset superstar of the game.
Plays short, tall, fast, slow, whatever, doesn't matter.
So, so underrated it's sad. Deadset heart and soul of the club (well, if you put Harves aside).
Just gives everything, everytime. Every week, every contest.
So honest.
Beats Hall one week, then Fevola the next, then the following week keeps a red hot Philip Matera goalless or a Nathan Brown.
It's just unheard of, particularly in this day and age of such soft umpiring, where 'stoppers' are becoming pretty much obsolete, that Max can be consistently good and valuable to a team.
Thank god for Max is all I can say.

Gave him my 5 votes tonight - he was not only good at beating his opponent, but he frustrated him to the point where the Fev totally lost focus.
Right in front of us in the last, Max outmarked Fev and immediately played on with a handball - while Fev had turned his back and was getting ready to stand the mark.
Took Fev seconds to realise what had happened then he just wandered off with no interest - Max broke a spirit, notwithstanding it's not a strong one to start with.
Thought Max's rebounding tonight was as good as I can recall for four or five years, when he used to run off with that flair, and the turn of the head to see who he was outpacing.
Just rapt to see him finish without limps and ice-packs.
An integral part of our backline for the big push this year.

He was wrecked - but he was walking freely arounf the boundary and I didn't see any ice at that time - came off I think about the time the Blues fired up and kicked three.perfectionist wrote:Finished the game on the bench. Hope it was just fatigue. Most of the frees were there - very difficult for a backman these days, unless you are playing on Roo - few rules apply there.
Fishers were great, with Sam on the bench at the end too.
Haven't seen a replay yet but in agreeance, hope it was just fatigue.
A few of our boys in the last five minutes were adopting that great Harvey "bent over, suck it in" stature.

Well said, couldn't agree more. I know it sounds negative, but what a shame he'll probably retire over the next few years.rodgerfox wrote:I wanted to start a thread dedicatde entirely to Max - but you sort of beat me to it.

noted; Max had obviously decided that every contest was going to result in a free for carlton- after most had during the first quarter.
during the second quarter after another contest he just turned and stood with his hands in the air as if the blues player was going to take a free kick - but it was called play on
either that or he was taking a shot at the ump without saying a word.
