West Sydney Drive-bys.
Wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of sky blue in their jumper to trade off the state's official colour.
Has to be the Gold Coast (loan) Sharks, you'd imagine.
Having said that, the way sports are going these days, expect another crap Amercanised name like Port went for.

I think sky blue would be a good idea for West Sydney.ctqs wrote:West Sydney Drive-bys.

Taken from the club's website:
"The late seventies was an extremely successful time for the on-field performances of the club with a string of Gold Coast premierships gathered along the way. It was this success at local level that prompted the decision to enter the State Competition (QAFL) in 1983. Southport faced one hurdle and that was the inclusion of another side into the QAFL (Sherwood), who wore an identical jumper to that of Southport and also called themselves the “Magpiesâ€

Can't. Too close to the NBL's West Sydney Razorbacks. They call themselves the Pigs, for what it's worth.Zed wrote:Gold Coast Retirees .. the blue in their uniform should match the blue rinse in the hair of half the population
West Sydney Ferals or West Sydney bushpigs

Now be nice folks, the Gold Coast isn't such a bad place. I think the team would take on the Gold Coast sporting colours which is a pale blue and yellow. The colours are quite nice. Can't see them taking over the Southport Sharks identity. They wear Collingwood colours for a start.

Or the west sydney whales might be nicer.. not that whales have much to do with Sydney? Then again its just a name.
not sure whether that hurts the chances of another team bearing that name
yeah we were once know as the seagulls (hence my avatar) the fans liked it but preferred the saints.
dont want any onther side being calle the seagulls as it is apart of our past.
Trouble is the traditional NSW colour is pale blue also. They couldnt use it for Sydney so it may well get used in the West team. On the other hand that might be too logical, as it clashes with noone cept perhaps Port.Saint Bev wrote:Now be nice folks, the Gold Coast isn't such a bad place. It's okay, the NBL won't be around too much longer. The West Sydney and Brisbane teams at least, funnily enough.ctqs wrote:Can't. Too close to the NBL's West Sydney Razorbacks. i may be mistaken but i think there are a whole heap of names that other clubs hold as back up names that cant be used and the Sharks are one of them (i remember hearing about it when freo came to existance )
honestly i feel they will get some lame ass marketing buzz name

How about...
Gold Coast Stingrays, I like that.
West Sydney, don't know, West Syndey Redbacks? Or maybe West Sydney Hornets, that way the home venue can be called "The Hornets Nest", but that may be difficult as I believe ANZ stadium will be the home venue which the Swans also serve as a second home.

Gold Coast Suns makes sense... seeing as it's supposed to be sunny and stuff up in the "gold" coast. but imagine the mascot... a huge BEACON steps out on the field on game day!Spinner wrote:Gold Coast Suns?
West Sydney Royals?
....Did the league in fact try to deter new clubs from having animal mascots? ie eagles, bears, lions, cats etc.?????

Because of their jumper, the Swans flirted with the idea of changing their name to the Redbacks when things weren't going so well in the early 1990s. They also flirted with changing their jumper to sky blue, to incorporate the state colour.SydneySainter wrote:How about...

All I can think of is the
The West Sydney Low Membership
Western Bulldogs
Gold Coast Kangaroos.
I still think they'll get North and they want to get rid of 2 Melbourne sides.
