Gram's kicking???? Poor one week...and excellent the next!!!

Post: # 525344Post saintsRrising »

In 2006 I though he was superb....very good kicking that broke games open...

But in 2007 his accuracy seemed to be markedly poorer..

Tonight he was shanking it everywhere....with many kicks going short...

So whats the story???

Is it just confience?

Is it the yips?

Does he have some niggle affecting him???????

PS- I am not talking about other aspects of games here...just his kickin.

I think Gram's just a little rusty after missing some time. I think given a couple of weeks he'll be fine. He does have a tendency to bomb it long though which, even when it goes where you want it to, doesn't always work out. And he does let the odd wobbler go off his boot.

I thought the same that he looked quite rusty last week, a little better with the traffic this week, but a couple of real shanks.

But - I do like the fact he trusts himself to throw some real barrels from half back/wing, especially when nothing's moving for him up forward. I'd hate to see that taken out of his game so hope he gets it back soon.

As we ALL know, a well kicked torp is dynamite, but gee it can go horribly wrong.

Yeah he was ordinary tonight, but I don't want him to question himself, it can come in so handy and it needs to be trusted...

I think that he is not up to full pace and therfore being forced to kick under a bit more pressure than normal being closed in by the opposition. When his fitness base is back to 100% and he finds that extra half meter of space he will be as good as ever

for the first ten games of 2006 his kicking and decision making was absolutely terrible.

I see a lot of similarities between David King and Grammy.

9 out of 10 times David King got the ball he'd run in a straight line maybe have a bounce and kick it long. This meant the North forwards (especially Carey) knew where the ball was going to go the second he had it.

I think this is all Gram has to do, he's not the most accurate short to medium range kick but he is a penetrating long kick. Kick it long and let our forwards contest the ball one out.

Grammy needs to ditch the new hair colour and get back on the bottle blonde. He is a much better player with a lighter hair colour.

A few that carried a bit too far or were off the side of the boot, but not too concerning at this stage ...

He was getting the footy and giving us nice run and carry, and once G and Kosi are there to straighten us up a bit more things will click ...

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

from the man himself

"Gram played his second pre-season game against the Bombers, and while he escaped unscathed after a summer plagued by injuries, he has earmarked some areas to improve on before the home-and-away season begins.

"I've had a lot of niggles over the pre-season. I had surgery on my collarbone and my knee, so I missed a lot of footy before Christmas," he said.

"Then I came back and had a few hip problems, so I've just been managed, playing 60 to 70 per cent of game time.

"I wasn't too happy with my game tonight because my kicking was probably the worst I've ever kicked.

"But, that'll come, and I'll be out every day this week having a kick."

the only one i noticed last night was his out of bounds on the full 9 pointer effort.

but i think you can put that down to him just having no time and having to kick the s**t out of it.

he drilled a massive torp from half back to half foward which was nice.

i'd like to hear what ric has to say on this 8-)

ill prob get flamed for this but i dont think grammy is as good as we made him out to be he's a handy player and can do some real great things but he's no star player hes not accountable of his opponent enuff to be and his kicking has been woeful both not really great quallitys for a backman

again in my opinion hes a good player but he does tend to spray a number of kicks each week especially when hes under pressure and i ask you who was the last forward gram shut out of the game ?? his strong point is not shutting a player dwon more making them chase him and that fine aslong as our mids beat their mids otherwise his opponent is going to get a free run cause he plays so for off his man
imo Gram shouldnt be playes as a backman but as an outside mid

is anyone else ancient enough to remember when plugger ran out for the start of the season with blonde tips in his hair.

he must have wanted to look more like his idols, the more experienced and established players trevor barker, michael roberts, greg burns and joffa cunningham.

Well wind forward to half time at the GF...and it is very pleasing to say that gram's kicking has vastly improved and his kicking is ofa whole standard.

Wind forward to the end of the game.....and Gram's disposal was good for all four quarters...and with winning so much of the ball he deservedly gained BOG.
