I only posted Forum 'whipping boys' on my list.
Milney and Raph were really stiff to miss out.

The Gold Coast Sharks will get first pick of all the young talent.
Nicholas Naitanui Cup will be a Gold Coast Sharks player and probably their first signing....plus other priorty picks.
Then they will pounce on some uncontracted players........good ones...and then finally will pad the list out with some fringe players and rejects to fill in till the kids blossom.
However the number of really good players that they will secure will be limited as those players wil hunger fora Premiership and will know that the GC will be uncertain in quality fora while.
Salary cap exemptiosn fora while we see a few senior players go there to play out their last 3/4 years on contracts wortha lot more than they will get for beinga mid to fringe player at their existing club.

I think you might be wrong here, I believe that 11 of the 16 clubs have to vote against it.bigcarl wrote:the 18 teams scenario will not come into effect unless 11 of the 16 existing clubs agree to it.

All very interesting, and somewhat concerning. I bet my left one free agency will just oh so conveniently come in around that time and it will be on for young and old, what with all the extra $$$$ they will have in the cap. Then you have draft picks, first dibs on uncontracted players....they could take it to the extreme. Its the AFL, anything is possible.
I didnt know I could have anymore distrust and disdain for those pricks at AFL HQ than after certain incidents over the last few years, but they prove me wrong every day.
Enjoy the next few years, where things are relatively normal. In no time at all, these will be the good old days I fear.

Check out the post 8 before this one - it was a joke that others seemd to get!
And what's wrong with the others on the list that you are not objecting to?
While I really like Fiora, I will point out that list included Allan Murray, Jason Blake, Andrew McQualter, Mat Ferguson, Mark McGough, Fergus, Brooks etc. I don't think I need to point out anything further.iwantmeseats wrote:OH! Why I would not list him as untouchable, he was in our best 22 last year by mile.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

I've accepted the status quo - even the lop sided draws.
Really - looks like we've got 3 years to win 3 flags, cos after that, no vic team will win a flag for decades... probably after amalgamations.
And who'd wanna watch a diluted comp, with LESS chance of winning a flag. Not me. 2010 - not long away.
To the board.. reject this idea.
Actually the board should get the members to vote on it.
it's all about tv rights and money with hardly a thought given to the fans that support a great game

I do like the national comp now, and the good surfaces, however if the AFL devalues footy in Vic much more they'll have killed the goose that laid this golden egg we call Footy.

Got to laugh at that one. Statistically less chance to win a flag. We have won one in 110 years so we aint actually winning them statically either. Maybe a a couple of new teams may help us because at the moment we are not winning them every 16 years.bigcarl wrote:my biggest problem with it is that it will mean that statistically st kilda has even less of a chance of ever winning another flag.
the afl's stance reminds me of the governments in the early part of last century who tried to solve poverty by printing more money.
anyone who knows anything about stats knows that the past cannot dictate the future, thus what big carl suggests is correct. Under an 18 team system we are less likely to win a flag each year. LAst time I checked 1/18 is less then 1/16plugger66 wrote:Got to laugh at that one. Statistically less chance to win a flag. correct. to put it another way in 2008 we need to watch 15 opponents.Solar wrote:anyone who knows anything about stats knows that the past cannot dictate the future, thus what big carl suggests is correct. in 2010 we'll be competing with 17 opponents.

Having an expansion draft really isn't a big deal. the club protects its best 10 players and then its what-ever goes. Happens in the NBA every so often when a new team/franchise is created. A player has to agree to leave so they're not forced.
My top 10
Roo
Kossi
N Dal Santo
Hayes
S Fisher
Montagna
Maguire
L Ball
Gilbert
McEvoy
I'm sure i've missed a few guns out, but the idea is that you leave your elders unprotected [hudghton, King, Gardiner etc] who no-one would pick up and protect the young talent.
Its most likely that the team will be just full of hacks who would have got delisted anyway, so i don't think there will be too much poaching anyway. If we've won a few premierships by the time the Gold Coast team begins, they can have anyone they want lol!

The AFL should concentrate first on the home of the game -here in Vic and for example could build a stadium to the west of Melbourne, and maybe another on the outer S.E. of Melbourne and in both cases AFL matches get played there..and probably excellent crowds and more support for the game in expanding areas. While the AFL is hell-bent on pushing the game into what it sees as expanding growth areas interstate and possibly other countries and even other planets, it may have forgotten that Melbourne and surrounding areas is one of the hottest growth areas in the country.

Sums it up perfectly!
DO THE MATHS AND THE SQUARES ARE ALL ROOTED.
But we havent won flags with any amount of teams. We have as low as 4 and as high as 16 and we have one won flag. If you are the best team it doesnt matter if there are 30 teams so 2 extra teams makes no difference but if you cant see that so be it.Solar wrote:anyone who knows anything about stats knows that the past cannot dictate the future, thus what big carl suggests is correct.
