List changes for '09.

Post: # 520137Post Otiman »

I know it's way too early to speculate, but i'm bored. Who would be on the chopping block for delisting at the end of this year?

Required Additions - 3 National Draft Picks.
Probable Additions - 2 or 3 Rookies (This is VR, Eddy, and Attard's last year on the list)
Possible Additions - PSD Pick, 4th National Draft Pick.

This is at least 5, and probably 6.

Probable Retirements - Harvey
Possible Retirements - Hudghton, Gehrig, King, M. Gardiner, Maguire.
Possible Delistings - Gwilt, Ferguson, Rix, Howard, Fiora, Blake, Jones.

Let's call it 6 changes, so that's Harvey + 5 others from the rest of the list. Goose, King and Gardiner all have a few years (or more) left, so i'm talking injury related retirements.

Our developing players and depth is quite scary when you think of someone like Fiora in line for the chop.

Who would you delist, if you had to get rid of 5 players right now? (Harvs not included)

Fair enough, I had Maguire as being ~26-27 for some reason. Is only 24 this year.

Considering Jones' performance on Friday, I doubt this will be the case. The chances we have given to Raph Clarke, Gwilt, McQualter, Fergeson etc over the last few years lead me to think Clint we definatly not be dropped after only 2 seasons at the club. Despite some disposal issues last year, I believe Clint Jones has way more potential than anyone in the list I have just mentioned.

As for Fiora, first everyone bags him, then he proves why we snagged him with a great string of 22 matches last year and 12 goals, now we are delisting him. In the words of Pauline Pantsdown, please explain?

harvey

max- think he will need to: injurys, more demands offensivly from backmen

m gardnier/king- I think we will only need one of them beyond this year
unless they both star : D (I like both but if it comes down to them or a young up and comer...)

ferg- love the guy from what I have seen but injury prone and been on the list a while

Gehrig/Gwilt- depending on form,desire wtc

I suggest everyone gives this a go with a target of 5

its harder than its ever been

2 reasons

1) its an interesting guage of how people rate the players

2) its a challenging exercise that illistrates our depth..

seriouslly I'm sick of everyone going up in arms whenever someone does this. That is thier choice.

a post objecting to the original post should never of been posted imo

So we can keep an eye on players who are on the "chopping block" throughout the season to see if they improve their performance enough to be kept.

I can't believe people are sying Maguire is a possiblity to be delisted......

Even if the worst case scenario happened and he broke his leg again!!!! he wouldn't be delisted.

Good idea.

Let's get the whipping boys on the chopping block early in case we need a short list of scapegoats.

PS nothing wrong with discussing list management - but to be honest I really want to the club to focus on the now.

I'll make a prediction. Certain player will be demonised (fairly or not) this players name rhymes with "Marron Biora".

He's a solid player, but he will be competing for a spot (in the 22) with the much loved Sam Gilbert, and perhaps Raph Clarke.

He's basically a pinch-hitting wingman/forward, who is played off the bench in bursts.

Also, on Rookies - As far as i'm aware we have to promote or delist the 2006 rookies (VR, Eddy, Attard) or lose them and have to redraft. Is this correct?

Blake has been a best 22 player for years now (despite what people on here would have you believe), so can't see him being delisted....also really can't see Jones being delisted a year after been elevated, he appears to be in good form judging by fridays game, and RL loves him........the only 2 i see as possibles are Rix and Ferg.......

Here lies the issue. We have a full list including rookies, 3 of which most will agree should be elevated. We then must have 3 national draft selections. The hard decision must be made here.

The only way out that I can see is to trade away some quality for low draft picks.

Don't forget C Jones (who had to be elevated or delisted last year), King and M Gardiner both need to have decent years to stay.

Also don't we have a spare spot on the list anyway?

Quite possibly. That would simplify things quite a bit.

We have 7 rookies (including Khan) and our Jerseys only go up to #46.

Can also put Max Hudghton outside the list as a veteran. Is anyone else eligible for Veteran status?

So...

Main List - 39 (trim down to 34): Harvey(retired or +vet), Hudghton(+vet), Gwilt, Ferguson, Rix.

National Draft - Pick #16, #32, #46. :D
Rookie Promotions - Van Rheenen, Attard, Eddy
Rookies Retained - Miles, Chivers, Haretuku
Rookies Delisted - McQualter

Does Miles fall under the same regulations as Jones did last year? (1 year rookie only)

This also gives us another 3 rookie draft picks, or 2 if Harvey wants to continue. This is the great thing about the Veterans list, it alleviates pressure off guys like Harves to retire, when he can go external to the main list.

Also forgot that we have #4 free this year. This means we have 2 spots free on the main list, and list management shouldn't be an issue for us, in regards to culling talent.

2 free spots
Harvey, Max (Veterans listed or retired)

Leaves 1 rookie elevation and 3 ND picks straight off the bat.

Then delist Ferguson and Gwilt (given they have similar years to '07) to allow space for the rookies.

Easy as pie.
