The corps act says the AGM has to be in the following calendar year after the season , if the last one was, (and within 6 months of our year end of 31 Oct)...so has to be Jan feb or march or April. I also agree the delay is due to board getting in power in Nov, and waiting for 5 official board members to be approved for gaming , and then getting the 07 accounts done and approved as a new board, and then the advertising and notification timetable..the whole process obviously got started later due to the challenge...i would rather it be delayed and correctly done than rushed and wrong....

Thanks for clarifying that.
Last year they had it on a Sunday morning.
Seems strange they haven't done the same this year.
If they delayed it 3 days they could have combined it with the family day.
That would probably boost the attendance at both ?

How does it work, which members get invited? Those who have been members for years, or what? As far as I can see the article only mentions "sending out invites to members" or something, rather than who specifically.
Being a (first time) member this year I'd definitely be interested in going, but I'd assume a lot of people are the same. Is everyone put off by a massive entrance fee or something?

I have been going to the agm for the 5-10 years. there usually is around 100 members or so go.
i believe most people cannot be bothered going .
it appears that the only time many people go is when there is turmoil at the club.
All 2007 members would get the invite. If you only signed up this year (2008) you would not be on the database for 2007 AGM.Raven wrote:How does it work, which members get invited? AGM=Annual General Meeting. By Law, anyone who wants to can attend. If any of the business requires a vote, only eligable (over 18) 2007 members are entitled to vote. All eligable 2007 members should receive notification of the AGM.Raven wrote:How does it work, which members get invited? Those who have been members for years, or what? Basically, all that hapens at the AGM is;
1. Recieve the audited report of the club's financial situation
2. Receive the annual report on behalf of the directors
3. Announce the results of any elections (none this year)
3. Announce any Life Members and/or other awards
4. Introduce any Guest Speakers
5. Deal with any other business received prior to the meeting or deemed appropriate by the Chairperson
It should last no more than 45mins to 1 hour. Who's going? !!

Going back a few years the AGM was becoming a big production.
At Moorabbin town hall with all players in attendance, and interviews with the new recruits.
Even had some video content one year.
Now it is a very low key, and mostly focused on the formal business.
Though the coach's speech is always interesting.
But the most interesting bit is questions from the floor.
Often get some passionate ones about how the club is run, the Tasmania folly, our "home", the incompetent Council, the accounts, etc.
And then you get "important" ones about prices of the merchandise, the toilet facilities, lack of info for people not on the internet, and complaints from Ivy !

In past years the AGM would finish with a passionate rendition of the club song. This was stopped a few years back. I hope GW, NB & Co bring it back.
On the stupid questions from the floor. This got out of hand the yr spida was awarded life membership when some guy from crikey.com hijacked the microphone !!
