My apology for going off on a tangent on this but in the picture, none of the jumpers have 'the cross' on them. When did it become part of our jumper?

Origin of St Kilda's Uniform Crest

Round 5, 1933 St Kilda vs North Melbourne:

Nine Saints players were seriously injured during the game. They eventually finished the game with only 15 men on the ground, many still injured (there was no interchange bench in those days). Despite this, St Kilda managed to hang on for a 97 to 83 win. Emotional officials pinned badges of recognition on the survivors' guernseys. The badge is now incorporated into the uniform.

as pwoit said i could name em all...we all played jnr footy together for

st.kilda city under 11's....didnt win many games but gave us a good grounding to being saints

i'd name em all now but that would make it to easy for you lot

Obviously not many have a the history published by Feldmann and Holmesby "The Point of it All"
Back Row: A Ludlow, A Hart , F (Flops) Phillips, H Neill, C Gambetta, W Robetrs, E Sanneman, H Matthews.
Sitting : H Mason, D Warr, J Mohr, R (Tiger) Bence, E Smedley, W Cubbins, C O Carr, W (Wagga) Mohr, S Hepburn, P Outram.

Stated by the authors to be "one of the best ever StKilda sides to make the finals" this era (1920s) stands out "as the stormiest of all".

The book covers the period 1858 to 1991.

A nice story, but sadly untrue.

This was thought to be the story, until recently, when the family of one of the players involved in that game turned up with a donation to the club, including a photo taken the Sunday after that game.
The team had their photo taken the day after the game, and all the jumpers already featured the StKilda logo, which was first used on club letterhead that year as well.

Turns out it was just sewn on at the start of the season as a good thing to have on the jumper.

This was relayed to me by Russell Holmesby, club historian, and writer of the book listed above.
