Carey, Mason tipped for $1m boxing match

Controversial former AFL star Wayne Carey and rugby league's colourful figure Willie Mason may fight in a million-dollar boxing bout of the codes next year.

Carey, a former AFL Kangaroo star, is considering an offer from Mason's manager, Greg Keenan, to step into the ring, News Ltd newspapers say.

"Your mail is right," Carey said when asked about the proposal.

"I got a call from Willie's manager last week to ask me whether I was interested.

"I wasn't at first. But if everything worked out right, I'd certainly be interested."

Carey was at first reluctant to fight Mason, a Sydney Roosters recruit, because of the age different between the stars.

Carey is 36, but Mason is 27.

And Mason is expected to enter the ring about 15kg heavier than his leaner counterpart.

But a pay-TV deal would mean than the pair could pocket $1 million between them.

"When we were kids, we used to say when we were watching Mike Tyson fight, 'You'd jump in the ring and get knocked out for a million dollars, wouldn't you'," Carey said.

I've had a chat to my mates about it and we've had a bit of a laugh. And we said, 'If the money was right, you'd jump in and if you got knocked out, it'd be worth it'."

Celebrity agent Max Markson said a Carey-Mason clash was "a promoter's dream".

"Controversy makes for good box office and the controversy associated with both players adds to the interest levels," he said.

"You could have Jeff Fenech training one and Kostya Tszyu the other."

One way for Carey to win back some fans!!!

It'd be a three-hit fight. Mason hitting Carey, Carey hitting the floor, and the ambulance hitting 160kmh. Great to watch, though, especially when Archer comes into the ring just as Carey hits the deck, to kick the ... out of him.
You can take the boy out of Noble Park ...
:D

Archer would smash him with one arm tied behind his back... Carey was a good footballer... nothing else.

As for the c**k vs Duck fight... Willy is a massive unit... Would make Carey's record 0-2.

That's what I thought, too. In a fight between a big dog and a little dog over a scrap of food, back the hungry one. Archer would want to hurt Carey more than the other way around, I'm guessin'.

As much as you might hate CAREY he would defanatly do the job on Archer. Archer as brave and fearless as you could be would be no match for Carey in the ring. Carey goes very well.

I know what your saying but I reckon Archer has more mongrel in him and wouldn't necessarily be the better boxer, but the better fighter, which is what I reckon it'd turn into.
By the way, my father was a boxer. Mum was a german shepherd. :D

Having mongrel means little in the ring just means you lose control and use up energy Carey can do both box and fight. Dont get me wrong id love to see Archer standing above a knocked out Carey wouldnt happen thats all.

The end of the day... It doesn't really matter how well you hit... it's how well you can get hit.

Archer would take a hit a lot better than Carey... as would Mason.

At the end of the day all that matters is CAREY would knock Archer out. I think you will find Archer a lot of huff and puff about him its very easy to act tough on the footy field when you know nothing can be done to you. Look at that twit Heath Black used to run into every scruff and huff and puff then Margrave just jobbed him and lights out.

Aah, that was funny. I never thought Black was tough. On the contrary. I always thought he was more about the show than the substance when it came to that sort of thing. Funny how blokes like that "lose interest" and require a lay down after they're jobbed. :D

Mason would punch the living crap out of Carey, plain and simple. Put Barry in there if it's about defending the code. That would be a promoters dream (and I know it's been nixed already). Hell, put Plugger and Mal Meninga on the undercard.

I think we could come up with a pretty good undercard;

Grant Thomas v Andrew Demetriou

John Laws v Deryn Hinch

Michael Braun v Jason Akermanis

any others? !!

Heres a few

Kevin Muscat vs John Kosmina

Victoria Beckham vs Food

Dick Advacaat vs Frank Lowy

Brittney Spears vs Common Sense

I just hope Iron Sheik does a run in and puts Carey, Archer and Mason in the camel clutch breaks their backs and makes them humble.

For the record I reckon Mason would hammer Carey. Archer would beat Carey too.
