My 22 - the armchair coach

Post: # 496629Post congorozides »

Obviously many people will disagree with me - but the imporant thing is I wrote down 26 names of players that are decent players.

I cant find a spot for Rix or Blake in the top 26 assuming there are zero injuries.

Fischer Fischer Dempster
Gram Maguire Gilbert
Baker Hayes Montagna
Goddard Riewoldt Schneider
Milne Gehrig X Clarke

Followers: M Gardner Dal Ball

i/c: Harvey Kosi* R Clarke Fiora

Emergencies: C Gardner Hudgton Armitage Ferguson

* I rate Kosi in the top 18 players - But I would still like to start him on the bench and use him as a pinch hitter in the ruck and up forward.

dont need to justify not finding a spot for either of them... Id imagine most saints supporters would agree that full strength or need to, neither would be in the side... Blake is closer than rix, agreed, they are not in our top 26..

Agree with this team and the changes... Possibly an inclusion of L.Fisher in Dempster's place dependingon form.. Not having seen Dempster play much, Ill have to give him a few games at least...

As with the Jason Blake point about him making top 10 B&F.. Noone discounts his endevour, but the fact is he struggles at the level and has done for years.. He may do the jobs required, which gets him the votes from the coaches, but in terms of AFL quality, he is just short in a number of key areas..

With baker to replace Dempster when he is back.

I think Goddard will come back via the Forward line and push for Half Forward when hitting form.

I have all of midfield to HH/HB rotations on the IC.

Is an interesting team structure but wanted to mix it up a bit :)

Thanks guys.
I think you are right about your comments. I actually forgot we had S King!
Maxy must be getting to the end and Blake is a hack. People think he is like Goodes because he has abig engine and is tall but time and time again he lets himself down with decision making. Cant tie Goodes shoe laces.

Would probably get paid about 25% of Goodes wages.

Under a salary cap it's all about players being good value for money. I reckon Blake is.

You're right: Blake should not be compared to Goodes.

Blake has played over 100 AFL games - selected by Watson, Blight, GT & Lyon.

He cost us the game against Collingwood. Why on earth would he take on Dale Thomas? That tackle spurred the filth on and we lost. Unforgivable...

You don't think the negative way they played for the last 28 minutes had something to do with that loss? How can a player can be blamed for losing a match on the basis of one incident over the couse of match involving hundreds of contests?

Sometimes players can be put in situations they shouldn't be in because the rest of the team isn't working hard enough. He had nowhere to go, no-one to kick to.

If more of the other players had his appetite for work then he probably wouldn't make the team. But they don't. So he does.

Agree completely Saints43.

Every time a player from another club arrives at Moorabbin there is an assumption from too mant posters (probably more hope and I've definitely been guilty of that!) that he is some sort of champion (despite the obvious fact that another team let him go). We got Dempster for absolutely nothing and yet according to this post he is straight into the first 18 even though we finished about even with the Swans and they were happy to let him go.

How about having a bit more faith in the players on our list, especially Blake and Fiora who have shortcomings, but in 2007 gave everything that any reasonable supporter could expect and I, for one, believe that we will be rewarded in 2008.

Also note that Maguire will play Goddards old role, whilst Goddard plays where most people have Kosi.

I've got Kosi at CHB, cause I really do think that this is where is real skills are utilised.

I picture Kosi running off his man and gunnign it down the guts.

whilst maguire heads straight to Kosi's man, Kosi runs like pharlap straight to 40 m outside of goal and takes a mark heading toward a pack!

I love Kosi running with the flight of the ball! and this is why he is so good in the ruck cause they're always trying to lead the ball.

Was a mistake on my part, as I removed Dempster for L.Fisher.

Baker would replace eihter a non performing bench/mid or small back player.

might even see him replace milne or schneider if out of form.

The point is I see enough flexibility in the list now, to allow selections to be based on merit and peformance as opposed to really having no choice.

Every player barring injury will have to fight for their spot.

Of course some find this easier than others :)
