Why do Victoria have a Monopoly on State Footy????
According to Kevin Sheedy, the best 50 players in the AFL will be playing in "the game of footy he's been waiting for", middle of next year.
What a load of CRAP.
This means that 25, of the best footy players in the country, are VICS!!!!
That's BULLS**T!!!!
I have to say guys, I love the Saints, but I also love SA!
Have a look at this team, and tell me how they'd go!

it's being held to celebrate 150 years of football, seeing as victoria started football, i think they should have there own team, especially when 10 of the 16 league teams are from vic anyway.
i'm excited about the match, do you know of any possible lineups?
i've heard jonathon brown will be captaining victoria and andrew mcleod will be captaining the rest of australia.

Top 25 Victorians > Top 25 rest of Australia.
This match will prove it. I can't wait.
I don't know what the other states are complaining about - the US plays Europe in the Ryder Cup, and then they take on the whole world in the President's Cup.
It makes for the biggest and best to take on the rest.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
Er, because football was created in Victoria.
Of the players you name in your SA team only a few would be in the best 50 players in the AFL IMO.....
S. Fisher - maybe
C. Cornes - yes
S. Burgoyne - yes
P. Burgoyne - maybe
M. Pavlich - yes
W. Tredrea - yes
B. Ottens - yes
B. Lade - maybe
K. Cornes - yes
And that is being generous. SA would get absolutely creamed.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
It has nothing to do with the Vics thinking they are the best footbal state. It has to do with the fact 48% of all players in the AFL come from Victoria, and 52% of all players come from the rest of Australia and overseas. Please give us a better sugestion of how a one off game can be played that includes all players in the AFL.sax wrote:Who gave Victoria the right to think they're the best footballing state anyway???
when you judge someone,
You don't define them,
You define yourself.

Have you been listening to KG and Cornesy too much?sax wrote:You Vics are all the same, seriously!!!
The other teams didn't join the VFL, they joined the AFL, & if they didn't, the VFL would've gone broke!
Seriously, contrary to the popular opinion floated over there, the world generally and football specifically doesn't have Adelaide at its epicentre.
The AFL is celebrating 150 years of football which officially started in Victoria.
Of course they would have gone broke - just as has the SANFL, WAFL, TFL etc etcsax wrote:You Vics are all the same, seriously!!!

Bears joined the VFL
Sydney joined the VFL
West Coast joined the VFL
In any historical reference the current competeion is referred to as the VFL/AFL.
The other states still have the SANFL, WAFL etc - where is the VFL?
The interstate clubs joined a victorian based competetion - it's a fact!
Get over it Victoria is the major football market hence it being home of 10 of 16 clubs.
Stop whining and whinging it just demeans you.
PS: I am a South Australian!

It was the VFL.
Did the VFL join the SANFL or WAFL??
No, they joined US.
Get a clue FFS.
Victoria rules and is the best state in Australia.

The first interstate teams did join the VFL. The VFL was renamed the AFL in 1990. A very dark year for football. Collingwood... Libba...sax wrote:You Vics are all the same, seriously!!!

Thank you to all the interstate teams who chucked in 6 million dollars to get a share of Waverly Park and the right to make multi-million dollar profits in their monopolised marketplace. Victoria salutes you.
I see now that the AFL have put a proviso in thqat allows them to ban plyers from the next H&A game if they dont front for this game.NOW we might see something closer to 2 good sides..wish we were playing Geelong the week after it though..as half their side will be involved!!
As for you interstaters getting a bit precious...well..its like this
1. The game has to be at the MCG (Origins of footy..check Wikipedia)
2. Victoria therefore have to play, or your crowd is halved straight away. Noone will go to "Dreamteam A vs Dreamteam B"
3. We can only have one game...but you want the most amount of players to be eligible. This is the best fit scenario
sax....lets hear you alternative plan eh instead of getting so defensive about poor lil ol SA eh?

I think it's a great idea.
48% of players in the AFL come from Victoria, 52% from outside.
Victoria think they are better than everybody else, and everybody else loves to kick a Vic.
How about the interstaters get behind their best chance of seeing the Big V humbled.
It'll be a pretty handy match up....

i gotta agree in part with sax but i cant see any other way of doing it would SA sit aside while WA play the vics next year in the one off game ??? hell no they wouldnt so would WA sit aside heck no then the nsw wouldnt be able to feild a team Qld would be struggleing and tassie would struggle the NT would be a bit too short to be competitive . so we cant do it state by state
it sucks cause the "dream" team will not have any link to their jumper no history ect ect but heck the AFL has that with Freo

I only put this post up coz I like "fishing"! Looks like I got a catch!
To be honest, I'd rather see Vic vs SA, more passion, more history!!!
But I'd probably follow Vic anyway (More Saints, less Crows)!
I just hope it's a good game & players make themselves available!
And as for an earlier poster asking if I'm Graham Cornes, please don't insult me, I'm still a Saints fan & I can't stand the prick!!!!
A few of you guys really need to lighten up.
I didn't get abusive to anyone! (except Graham Cornes)

Poor knee-jerk response to an historical milestone by people without the balls to organise a State of Origin comp.
Can't wait to see the 50 top footballers in the country playing tiggy-tag excuse-me-mate football.
They'll be so scared about getting injured that there will be 36 fringe-pack-dancers on the field at any time.
The game Sheeds been waiting for..... don't make me laugh.

I think the problem here is guys like Graham Cornes aren't aware of the fact that this is not a State of Origin game. Whilst Victoria is being represented in the game, it is only logical since this is where footy originated. The AFL simply wants to commemorate 150 years of football with (ideally) a match which has the best players in the competition playing against one another. That therefore leaves the second side to be made up of the best players from the rest of the country. Whilst their jumper will have no historical significance, it isn't a state of origin game so this is a non issue. The new rule imposed by the AFL will make things interesting, but I have a feeling that players and clubs will pull out all sorts of tricks if they dont want to risk injury in this match.
Trust the Midas Touch

I don't care about who are in the teams or what the result of the game will be but I just think its a joke that the AFL thinks that Victoria are the only state worthy of representation.
It should be more about giving players the opportunity to play for their state, considering it is now the AUSTRALIAN Football League, not the Victorian Football League anymore.
(For what its worth anyway i think that WA would give the Vics a run for their money anyway)
