Saints Greatest Flops....
Well with Watts and Brooks now departed...not just from the Saints but from AFL footy as a whole it begs the question...
Who have been the Saints biggest flops from players secured from other AFL/VFL clubs????
Obviously they are two prime candidates..
Some others that come to mind:
David Winbanks.....shudder terrible skills and I can still not fathom why Ian Stewart thought he could play..
Michael Jez...did not play a game after coming from the Blues...not even a reserves or practice match..!!!!
Frost.... from the Dogs to waste an early draft pick in a move that caused stunned disbelief at the draft!!!!
Unfortunately I predict that forumites will be able to list many more blunders...

Brooks comes screaming to mind, as does Alan Murray.
Port had a good laugh at us over those 2.
Guerra survives 'cause he had a good first year, but is repeating his pattern at Dawks of firing at first then getting fat and lazy (only difference being he isn't bald anymore - not that its an improvement)

... or is it a case of St Kilda letting drafted individual players down by not properly monitoring and developing them in the past?
Considering the people that have been put into place at the club in the past 12 months and our current attitude towards player development (especially rookies) it makes me think of what could have been.
... but I guess I am thinking of the youngsters rather than some of the wonky more mature aged players we have picked up in the past.

And remarkably we also overlooked Fraser Gehrig in that years draft in favour of this nuffy.saintsRrising wrote:

Sean Charles from Melb to St.Kilda...
Not sure if that was the Watson timeframe, but in those surrounding years, players of the calibre of Monkhurst, Francis, Delany, Charles (as mentioned), Gale, and Powell (from richmond) are all as bad as it gets...
I absolutely HATED dean anderson as well, from hawthorn... and why we ever ever ever got jason daniels back from the swans is beyond me...

In order and including the position taken which is most important.
Name Position Games
Sims 2 0
Quirk 5 0
Arnol 3 13
Malone 12 0
Atkinson 16 2
Frost 8 4
Healy 6 38
Walton 16 22
Beetham 9 20?
Everyone of these players was our first pick in the draft. We were shocking early in the draft. Other clubs werent great but we were terrible.

yep spot on, and that's why I created the thread about Top Ten picks having to perform......I guess with a shocking track record (especially recently - Ball, BJ, Dal, Kosi and Roo big exceptions of course - but they were Top 3 picks, except Dal), I'm a bit impatient re the draft, and want to see us get some value early.plugger66 wrote:In order and including the position taken which is most important.
