the money maynot be important to him but if his hand is forced and the dogs pick him when hes stated he doesnt want to go anywhere but the saints then hes not going to give up the 50k (at least) by retiring not when he could just let himself go and make it so the dogs will not pick him to play then the dogs are contracted to pay him regardless its a loss either way for any club who draft frase except usSaint Mik wrote:He would play or walk away the money would not be all that important to him in his last year or two in football.
There is to much up side for the other clubs that need him not to take a chance IMO.
I would take him at a certain pick if you were going to pass anyway if he was there and try to get him to play
Going to be interesting he may just have to stay retired yet or play for another club if this happens, hope it doesnt but you cant be certain.

Why not have a two-pronged forward line. Kosi plays a pack mark style forward, whereas G is the complete opposite. With Schneider playing a legitimate crumbing option, and Milney finding space, we'd have all bases covered. Roo's suspect kick for goal wouldn't be worth bothering about, as he could play the role of hit-up forward he plays so well. ATTACK Ross Lyon!!! ATTACK!!!
If we get him late. well and good, if we dont, oh well thems the breaks.
Reckon G was getting past it anyways and with Schneider there and King and Gardiner (WCE variety) firing up with Kosi up forward, I dont know if he is needed.
Of course i mean at his age. At his peak he was great and terriffic for the Saints but we all move on.
Now I will argue against myself a bit. It is nothing like the plugger comeback. he was out of the game for a full year and was also a couple of years older than Frasier. G has only lost the beginning of the preseason so he will still be fit. I see no problems on this front.
As for #9. pfft. Earliest possible would be pick #58 and hopefully #70 otherwise - so what? Fraze wasn't an option this morning, so if we get him its a bonus.
Cant see him playing anywhere else. All this talk about no guarnatees by Archie Frasier is just window dressing so not as to compromise the draft process.

Lance or James??

im with u there with the mixed emotions, although i see more positive than negativeOh When the Saints wrote:Mixed feelings about this. I was looking forward (poor pun) to a different and less predictable attack in 2008.
G is a great player ... IMO if he returns, it should be for Vic games only and he shouldn't travel interstate.
He's terrific at the Dome, but struggles elsewhere.
Watch him in '05 ... he was fitter and more mobile. Lost some of that in '07.
He won't be a hindrance because of his scoreboard contribution, but as he himself said when he retired, the game is fast slipping away from one-position players.
Mixed emotions.
If drafted there should be an immediate decision that he will not travel unless it is a final, think about those extra weeks and what it could do for his body.
Obviously we have had to produce some plans over since rd 22 post fraser, and naturally this plan would work better against certain teams than others as a means of scoring
If the coaching staff feels this plan would be beneficial to keep him out
for a game then so be it, but teams like carlton and richmond, ud defiently play him, so out game plan may be less predictable than 07.
All in all, IF we get him it would be fantastic for the club and i for one would be very excited to see the snake go around again.
The G is coming!!!
Offer him a 3 year contract for huge money that increaes in the back end, with a retirement clause that if he retires before the end he only get paid 20% of the contract value or something.
there has to be a way for us to pick him up with 42 or so, and convince everyone else to have hands off. The club needs to read up on some game theory. Fraser needs to come out and say something along the lines of.
If I get picked up by another club I will retire. If I do play for them and go back on my word then I solemnly swear to pay the salvos 1 million dollars.
This way he is really letting clubs know that he will retire unless he plays for the Sainters.
Just some thoughts.

Happy to have the Big G train back if indeed we are the ones to get him... the price we may have to pay is the concern
But it makes me question how good we handled his retirement? We should have told him we were keeping him on the list until this draft (there was no reason to delist him before the final listings) and to go away and have a good holiday and think about it. To me he was always a threat of giving it away for the last three years but always regained enthusiasm after the break.....

And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf"

i think most clubs will realise if they pick him against his wishes it will only end up costing them

Won't be happy if we pick him with one of our first 3 picks.
I honestly don't really care if he plays for another club.
We need those three youngsters. We finished outside the 8 this year, it's not like we just missed out on the flag.
A lot of work is still to be done and Fraser won't be around for long.

I would love to have him back at the club. If he only wants to come back at the Saints that would be great. Remember Timid Tim was drafted by the Eagles but didn't even play a game with them because he didn't want to come to Perth. Fraser wouldn't be that much further behind the other guys, remember his last game was the same time as all the others in the team. I would imagine he would come cheap and he would be worth a late pick. Bring it on Fraser. Entertainment plus!!!!
I was at his last game and said then I thought he had at least one more year in him.

saints without fraser is not worth the 50k + to draft him|Andy| wrote:however the other teams wouldnt want us with gehrig, so it may be a good price for them to get him to retire by picking him...:S
other teams arent really that concerned with frase anyway if you cut off his supply hes a dead weight in the forward line

I was getting pretty excited about a Roo and Kosi forward line firing us to glory in '08, I was just getting over Gehrig's retirement!
Hearing about this has me in two minds. I love the great man, but I REALLY want Kosi in the goalsquare.
For a late pick, or in the PSD - it'd be worth it, otherwise sorry Frase (hurts to say it!), but nope.

Well in the last 11 rounds St.Kilda were the third best in the league, so if all teams keep up their form we actually wont be that far away from a flag...Beekay wrote:Won't be happy if we pick him with one of our first 3 picks.

Especially with the introduction of Schneider, King and Gardiner as well as the return of Goddard....

Is it just me or are people who try to claim that it is a bad move because he retired forgeting one simple fact. Gehrig only retired 3 months ago!!!!! He would have only let himself go as much as most players and if he wanted to nominate then no doubt he would be already making sure that the body is getting back to playing weight. Simply put if he wants to play then we grab him asap because Frase isnt the type of person to screw the club over!

I would luv to have him back and the media will luv him to, he is just so different ya just don't know what he is going to give you on match day.
As far as wanting to come back to the Saints, he has every right. I remember not so long ago a so called player went around a number of clubs and interviewed them for his services, snubbed other clubs and got to the club of his choice.
Anyways time will tell and it's great to see we have made a decision on rebuilding our facilities extra. I'll follow the Saints no matter where they go and feel there will be more positives as the season of 2008 draws closer.

This has me intrigued....he was struggling emotionally by playing on..the desire wasnt there...the game had gone past 1 dimensional players etc etc..........3 mths later he wants back in?
I smell a Lyon in the background here.......I also have concerns over M Gardiner here....and a requirement for a King/Kosi ruck combo in 2008...
hmmm....anyone seen Gardiner sprinting of late?

Wrapped to have him back if we can get him. Probably won't mean we're a big chance for the flag or anything, but we're a better team with him. He still had some quality football in him, wasn't as if he was washed up...he won us a couple of games this year.
Was worried who was going to replace him,but now we get another year to try and groom someone into that position,or draft someone....
Good to have a genuine character and entertainer of the game back,as they sure are few and far between these days.
