Yep. Let me be the first to congratulate Kingston Council on thier wisdom, vision and awareness. A national icon sporting club located in their suburb, wanting to upgrade the facilities for not only themselves - but the community itself, was just far to difficult for Kingston to deal with. They wisely sent them off to some other err... gleeful council who couldn't wait to sign them up!! Yep, pretty smart cookies that Kingston council mob!! Not...ausfatcat wrote:bigmicka wrote:If you live in Kingston you can blame this bloke.

"His interests include the preservation and enhancement of parks, open space and remnant and natural areas, better planning to reflect community expectations and provision of appropriate community services and facilities."
The biggest load af crap I have read.
The only park he has saved is a car park. Pretty hard to have open spaces when everything is surrounded by houses. Where is that national park near Moorabbin again?
Provision of community services and facilities? Yeh they need a car park and a rundown stadium more than a community centre.
Thanks to Greg these buildings will be left to decay even further. When our lease is up you can gaurentee he will be one of the first investors trying to buy the land.
Greg is an A-class knob jockey, he and Topsy Turvy have alot to answer for. Come on constituents vote those morons out, at the next election.

I firmly believe this bloke thought that by making us go on our way that we would relinquish the 30 year lease we had. Will be very very very disappointed when the saints lock everything up for 30years and no additional parkland for 30 years and the social club still there for 30 years. In the end by getting what he wanted he's guareenteed not to get it for thirty years.
St Kilda on the move ....To Frankston

Frangga will be less bonganish with the rising property values around the peninsula, plus it's quite close to Mount Martha, Mount Eliza and Mornington, which are quite good places to live if the players want to move out that way.
I have one question - if the project blows out beyond $10.25M, is the extra funding coming from where? Is it proportionally divided up amongst all stakeholders, or only some??
it was something like 6 or 7 million commitment from us.

Works both ways - Frankston is a thriving community trying to lift it's own profile. Moorabbin area is drab - lacking any type of community. You'd want to keep a national sporting team in your area and develop opportunities with them wouldn't you??ausfatcat wrote:I dunno if it's just me but when you want to do something to a piece of land that's not yours for 30 years you generally try to get some goodwill happening.

thats what i meant the council obviously wants to redevlop some parkland from the grandstands ect, well they now wont have that opportunity unless they buy out the saints lease. Which I can't see happening for a fair while after this.

Us = $1.25m, State Govt = $3.45m, AFL = $2.55m and Frankston Council = $3m

FAIR RUCKING DINKUM
The new board have been there all of five minutes and they make a decision like this about the club's future without the members having any say whatsoever
Rod Butterss was trying to locate St.Kilda in St.Kilda or Port Melbourne and was exploring options for a central inner city location
and this is what Westaway and the new board serve up
better than Casey but seriously this is an undemocratic decision foisted on the members without any say whatsoever, the members who actually financially make this club viable in the first place
Five minutes in control and this is what the trucking guy serves up
The new board can go and get trucked
Bring back Butterss
Put St.Kilda back in St.Kilda or as close as possible and that does not mean Frankenstein

We still have a 40-year lease on Moorabbin, and I imagine there are conditions to that lease in terms of maintaining the ground etc., so it will be interesting to see what happens there
It was suggested in the other thread by a "source" that the players were not pleased with Casey at all, and their preference was Moorabbin.

Go follow Buttarse all you like.
At least the new board have locked in a training base that is beyond the control of the Kingston Council.
F*** 'em, they couldn't come to an agreement with us and we've told them to piss off.
So what the members didn't vote - do we know all the details of all the proposals???
Let's just get the earth movers in and start construction soon, so it WILL happen unlike the Moorabbin plans under RB.

Hey at least King and Gardner can catch the Sorrento shuttle from sleepy hollow! Hey guys Frankston has massive potential and can infact have a similar impact to the likes of Geelong where the town embraces it as its own and the socio economic demographics of the surrounding areas has def changed. I live in Edithvale and to buy a house here can cost well over $500k granted the closer you get to Frankston the more you get for your money .
I am sure the players wouldnt be put off by traveling 20mins extra and if potential players are put off by that....how the hell do Geelong get players?

Those who are thinking along the lines of the above should have a good hard look at whether they really believe they ought be consulted on decisions like this... are you thinking about what's good for the future of the club, or what makes a nice tidy picture?barks4eva wrote:ABSOFRICKENLUTELYchook23 wrote:Probably would cause more angst.....but is this something (the move/in particular -location) be something that the membership should have had a say??

Have a look at how many clubs now operate out of their "traditional" grounds, and how many not named Collingwood, Carlton or Essendon genuinely attempt to appeal to the traditional constituency of local football. Even Collingwood has entirely abandoned Victoria Park. St. Kilda is one of the most expensive areas in Melbourne, and as well branded as it can be - what's the benefit of relocating to St. Kilda? Frankly, St. Kilda doesn't need us, and 40 years of hsitory say we don't need to be there.
40 years ago, the Saints moved from St. Kilda to Moorabbin. As a result of this move, they're by far the pre-eminent base in the south eastern Melbourne suburbs. It's more than likely that actually playing in Moorabbin was the dominant factor in this, however, it's created a corridor of support that already extends well toward Frankston, in site of the zoning which used tie Frankston to Hawthorn.
In an era in which Footscray has become the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood deserted Collingwood, Hawthorn train in Waverley, and the now unaffiliated Kangaroos are likely to become the 2nd team to leave Melbourne, the long term security of the club is best served by having as broad a constituency - paying member and otherwise - as possible... TV ratings are the name of the game.
Now ideally, you don't move at all. If you need to do so however (and it appears Moorabbin is simply not competitive), do it from a position of strength, to a position of greater strength. The opportunity to capture Frankston and the surrounding area in addition to the corridor of support through the southeast of Melbourne is one that cannot be ignored.
I've said already, for me personally, this is frustrating. As a now resident of Kingston, I'll certainly be voting for change - I honestly can't remember ever previously having a council issue I cared about much, but this blows me away. Because as a St. Kilda supporter, even if the finances of this move weren't spectacular, the branding opportunity is stuff you can dream on...
Unless we want to go back in time 40 years.

Given Frankston oval is the home of the stand alone Frankston VFL club (who wear red white and black) I wonder if they may become our new alliance.
They could return to their strip of the 80's which was the tri panel saints jumper.

In the PDF when it's open, you can use the "snapshot tool" at the top of the page (a little symbol of a camera with dotted lines). This copies it to the clipboard. You can then paste the image in Paint, save it and upload it to the internet.Bevan Shorluey wrote:I have some pdf's showing drawings of the development. any way of posting them?
Alternatively if that's too complicated, I'm happy to do it if you PM me.
They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

The Dolphins have called Frankston home for 40 + years in the VFA and a long time before that.
You think we should kick them off thier own ground like a schoolyard bully, then? Thier council is ponying up twice the money we are, you know.
I'd rather be affiliated with the Dolphins if we are training in Frankston, but thats for the clubs to decide.
