1997 - Preliminary Final - beat North Melbourne by a big margin, Heatley kicked 7 or 8
1998 - Round 6 - beat the Eagles at Subiaco by 2 points after being 4 goals down at three-quarter time; one of Harvey's best games

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

But I have to admit I am old enough to say the 1966 Grand Final. You could ask rogerwa. He remembers our first ever game in the VFL. He said that was pretty good !!

My Favourite Saints game and favourite Saints moment!! McKernan had no idea what hit him.. the Saints were ferocious that night.Eastern wrote:YES, and that gang tackle that Burkey & Brett Cook laid on McKernanOh When the Saints wrote:1997 - Preliminary Final - beat North Melbourne by a big margin, Heatley kicked 7 or 8
There was a pretty awesome game againts the Blues at Moorabbin in '89 IIRC. Plugger gave Sticks a towelling. It had been ages since we'd beaten the BlueBeggars. We were going off as though we'd won a G.F... My bro and I completely wrote ourselves off that night ( much to the disgust of our respective partners)

66!!
vs Melb.'63 - Carl Ditterich's debut- you had to be there to appreciate it- out of a Boy's Own Book to quote Press of the day! AWESOME!
97 Prelim. Final- Brilliant!
The win at Wav. after Trevor Barker's untimely death.
Beating the Filth at Victoria P when NICKY WINMAR STOOD PROUD & TALL & showed TRUE HEART for his people. To have been there was a privilege.
The thrashing of Brisbane at the Dome - 5 or 6? it's late for me!
Every win agst. carlscum after we got Hammil!
Am really just warming to this topic - need to check dates for many of my magic games but final games of Neil Roberts, Eric GUY, ALSO big in my memory!

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

I really enjoyed 2005 v Footscray as a contest, shame about Harvey's and Riewoldt's injuries
And also 2005 v Melbourne as a good old fashioned shellacking
Beating West Coast and Carlton by 101 and 108 points in subsequent weeks in 2004 wasn't too shabby ... not really our greatest performances though
Against WC we couldn't miss ... 7 goals from the Manchild
1992 Elimination Final v Collingwood ... oh hell yea, I wanna play em in another knockout final

I loved it, a massive win and it seemed like we were the next era of dominance, and the Brisban jugernaught had been officially brought to an end.Spinner wrote:That was one of the most boring games I have been to.Armoooo wrote:Best game I have ever seenNick_Dal_Santo = ChAmPiOn wrote:11 goals STRAIGHTSaintBot wrote:

No - That was to the reference that the 'game' marked the end of Brisbane but didnt spark OUR era...Riewoldting wrote:So a game's greatness is only to be determined with the benefit of hindsight?Spinner wrote:Yep...And then we went on to dominate the finals.....Armoooo wrote:I loved it, a massive win and it seemed like we were the next era of dominance, and the Brisban jugernaught had been officially brought to an end.Spinner wrote:That was one of the most boring games I have been to.Armoooo wrote:Best game I have ever seenNick_Dal_Santo = ChAmPiOn wrote:11 goals STRAIGHTSaintBot wrote:

Yeah, we won by 139 points. But do you really see a good game from the players when obviously the other side hasnt turned up. It was like training, and the game was finished by half time. It was a good game, every win is...but not a great one.
Once a game is pushed past a 60 point margin, it ceases to produce a good standard of football, one that requires at least some form of competition on the field.
It felt exactly like waking up the following morning and reading a St Kilda win after missing the game entirely. Yeh a good feeling but not a great one.
